It's just not necessary and lacks imagination. This green santa and gphat are a good example of how they should do rares, at least in part. Make new ones that reference the old ones without encroaching on them too much, but also use some imagination and come up with new ones.
Personally I think they should go back to the OG method, drop a pre-determined and finite amount of them around the map and let people go hunting for them

May lack imagination but it works. Quoting his very example, OSRS does not have discontinued items and yet they have a bigger player base (Thanks for reminding me too Draco

I was always wondering how would that look but it seems like interesting idea. Drop like 5K scythes or whatever in period of few hours and good luck lol

The action or process of causing so much damage to something that it no longer exists or cannot be repaired.

For most of this game’s existence, pursuing rares has been the game. Some have put in 400, 600, maybe more, days of gameplay. I fear looking at mine. It is unfair to erase the achievement of older players.
If you don’t like their value, make them untradeable. This game is vastly easier than before, vastly faster anyway. Only rares remain to store that value. I cannot for the life of me manage to catch Covid. Perhaps it's because I didn't get vaxxed? The travails of those lacking immunity.

I would personally be happy if rares returned. I could buy all my old rare friends. But the game isn’t about me. It’s unfair to those who’ve held for so many years.
