Some seem to think the game was grinding for the sake of grinding, as if some people would drop toothpicks irl just to count them or just to pick them up again. I don’t believe most players played rs like that, haha.

At one point, articles about games like this seemed to believe players had some sort of mental illness, or “special mental structure,” however you want to word it. I think it was more the market and adventure, especially the rare market.

So, it was normal brains pursuing rares and enjoying market trading. “Normal” if obsessive compulsive is normal, but there’s no Rain Man trend (movie reference).

They should not re-release original rares.
They should just keep on releasing alternate variants of rares such as the Golden Party hat, Green Santa Hat.
Black Party hat, black bunny ears, golden easter egg, black Halloween masks for next time pls?

Just dilute the market with enough rares and nobody will complain anymore.

Exactly, I was saying for years that we do need more rares. Golden partyhat is amazing addition even though event shouldn't last this long in my opinion.

I agree as well.

Both sides win as the ppl who want old rares get them and they keep the older generation happy by not rereleasing old rares.

Many of us have 10K+ hours of gameplay. Zezima probably has 20K or more. If le me posted his hours, since he’s active, it would probably amaze. So, “1000 hours” is nothing. People devoted their lives to the game. Some innovated and got 92 rc, hired runners. I had a large farming operation with regular workers which was less impressive but still something. I also got max combat fairly early to do gwd. People rushed to be first. Many put in more hours than I.

Players don’t need to obtain cosmetics, but there’s no reason older players can’t be recognized too.

Anyway, it’s just a game. The old trading used to be fun though. Players can learn a lot that’s applicable to the real world. But everything ends eventually.

These two bolded lines make no sense to me. Is it just a game or a lifestyle? If it is just a game, the contradiction is obvious, and that's the point I am against. Just because you decided to do so back in the day (or now) does not mean others need to/want to. People don't need to obtain cosmetics but would like for them to be reintroduced (which is again the point I am making) with people like me not quitting over something so silly but "phat guys" throwing a tantrum and threatening to quit if their so mighty "rare phat" is rereleased.

I agree, and I personally wouldn't be opposed to Jagex reintroducing all holiday items in some form such as cosmetic unlocks through the oddment store. There was a holiday poll years back where the majority of participants indicated they would be in support of reintroducing holiday items. I think it is important for Jagex to conduct more surveys/polls in order to collect data on player sentiments and desires.

These newer items such as Golden Partyhat helps to redistribute wealth and makes the goal of obtaining one of these highly sought out items obtainable for the casual player. The rares circle, especially party hats, has become far too small and elite in 2021.

I like the idea of cosmetic unlocks... They should do more polls, that way we know what majority of paying customers have to say.

In answer to your question, the game has been around for a long time. So, a person might play then do something else. His kids might later play, friends, etc. Even if not returning for a time, a player might feel a part of rs, thus likely to return eventually and to send others to the game.

No one is threatening to quit. It’s just akin to being hacked. If you want to ruin what others put so much time into, I guess some enjoy that sort of thing. You and many others in the game, perhaps Jmods as well, seem angry that some put a lot of time into the game.

I think it’s better to just let new players enjoy the same fun by releasing new rares. The game is supposed to be fun.

In the real world, there are criminals who get rich, other unfairness. The strong crush the weak. So, when some players come to rs, I think they want to find someone “strong” to get revenge on. But it’s just a game.

A player should respect what others have done, try to have fun himself if he wants to. If you ruin someone’s accomplishment in the game, the real world won’t have changed.

Anyway, I think rs would be much better if it had stuck with the previous way players played the game. Rs should be much bigger. But the goal might just be to reach near term goals, sell the company, etc. Maybe the game is planned to close in another couple years.

The old game would have worked though. It was fun, tried and proven. If they release old rares again as you want, which is different from what Theos said, then those old players will be gone. Many have been hacked over the years. It’d just be finishing off those who weren’t. I expect Theos would be gone as well.

You threw many assumptions there that I want to clafiry.

First, I am not angry. Just having a discussion. And if some players dedicated their life to a hat or game, hey, that is on them. But I don't see that as a valid point for not rereleasing or releasing.

Second, I do not care, as I enjoy the game already and will continue to play whether or not they rerelease/release new rares. If you go back to the first message, all I was saying was that Jagex is a for profit company and will do as they see fit to benefit themselves. Then a troll came in and started calling me braindead for saying the obvious (funny because the same troll probably thinks Jagex will never go back on its word). Then came the "achievement", "players quitting over a silly hat", "Jealously", "etc etc", "New players are angry" arguments.

Third, I am not ruining anybody's accomplishment. I don't understand that either. Nobody is removing the rare you corrently own. Unless you are referring to the bragging power, which is a bit egocentric in my opinion.

Fourth (and last), respect is something earned with actions and things that people should be proud of. Things that are done for the collective good are normally the things that make you a respectable person. But that is a different discussion and this one has already taken too much time honestly.

Party hats will never be re-released. The day they re-release a party hat is the day Runescape dies, period. No matter how badly the green thumbs want them. It is the burning desire to obtain extremely valuable rares that keeps people playing the game.

In marketing it is called perceived value, i.e., a rare that is easy for everyone to obtain is not a rare at all. Once that burning desire to have it goes away, the desire to play the game goes away too. You can say collecting rares doesn't drive you to play the game, but if getting rares doesn't motivate you, why are you on this thread? Re-releasing OG rares would be suicide for Runescape.

They would appease the high-risk churn players to gain some short term growth, but once the high-risks are appeased they will all quit, along with their loyal player base (which probably generates significantly more revenue than the green thumbs).

I hope they think very carefully about that when projecting their forecasts. They should take polls with a grain of salt , of course 99% of players are going to say they want rares re-released... because they have a burning desire to own one, whether or not they admit it. But once everyone owns one, its just another common item, no different than a bucket at the general store.

P.S. I don't own an OG party hat, but I respect the game. It is a status symbol which says "I was here in the beginning, and I am still here now." Someday in 20 years the GPH will send it's own message.

Lastly only people with low self-esteem hate on people for investing time into something they are passionate about. The haters say things like "what a waste of time," "you should have helped others, thats the only thing worthy of praise and respect," etc. Meanwhile the haters are the ones who've accomplished nothing.

I have already responded to whatever your reply was in previous post (not sure if an attempt to revive a topic, in need of attention, or what not). But you bring nothing new to the discussion so... sure, whatever you say. Let's wait and see what the company that owns Jagex do.

PS: Nobody hates a virtual person lol. I for one don't know any of you personally so why would I hate you? makes no sense whatsover. I really doubt any sane individual will hate on someone for owning a pixel. Enjoy your life and stop assuming what people think... that sounds like paranoia to me.

PS 2: They should re release green santa hat! I was one of the lucky ones hahaha! :P
