It was the first rare I ever bought (I had traded 100k into 5m and traded it all for a disk). They were only worth 3m at the time... then I preceded to start over and traded 50k back into 5m.

I also remember during the brief moment of time when the GE had no buy limits, I instant bought 60 disks at 5m each.

@Bo, is your anonymous Disk expert able to disclose if they like my suggestion?

Glad you support it <3

I’m extremely curious to see what the OG’s think? any Disk experts out there?

Tuffty? It does have a nice tale :p

The anonymous long-time Disk expert I spoke to, when I asked about your idea and similar concepts (making disks wearable/ creating a fave item slot like earlier mentioned by another player), said that it was an excellent idea that they would be fully in support of. This player, to me, seemed to love the disk so much that any new updates to their much neglected rare would be greatly appreciated by them.

It seemed from my short conversation that this disk expert had been a little frustrated by the fact that new 'Disk of Returning overrides' were introduced into the game, however the original disk was not updated or even mentioned much as part of these changes. However, they did also comment that they can understand that the developers likely weren't even considering this as a factor when creating the 'new' disk of returning override items for the locked out players.

To add on my personal opinion, I think that it was very nice gesture of Jagex to do that in the first place for locked out players, since it was a funny throwback to the humble origins of players being banned from the game and sent to the black hole (even if unintentional this time). I do agree, however, with our anonymous disk fan that it is a little shame the OG disk received no love.

I really love the idea, and to be honest, I think that is a plausible possibility given that with the recent 'lockout player' incident, those players received cosmetic overrides called 'Disk of Returning' but were thrown ranged weapons I believe. I think it is a great idea that could reignite interest in such an old, classic, and iconic rare. I'd really like to hear what others think about this idea/ possibility too.

I actually think might be a reason for this not to happen as it might devalue said override.

Plus ppl have been asking for weildable edibles for a long time yet it doesnt seem like jagex wants to do that as they havent done it.

I can understand and respect this opinion as well, and want to say thanks for commenting your thoughts. I've heard other players also share similar sentiments - for example - some others said that it was unlikely for Jagex to update such an old rare in the first place, and it was highly unlikely for them to make 'wearable edibles'.

However, I was speaking to another disk mercher who had traded disks within the past few months, and an interesting observation they mentioned was they noticed the opposite effect to the 'devaluing effect' that you mentioned. The new Disk cosmetic overrides being introduced to the game actually caused the original 'Disk of Returning' prices to plummet. In their opinion, the price of the original disk going down due to these untradable overrides wasn't justified. In essence, they thought it was the other way around: these new overrides being announced had 'devalued' the original disk.

For me, I just find it interesting and refreshing to hear both sides of this discussion. Ultimately, whatever they do with it is up to Jagex. Whether they add new disks, never change it, or do update the original in some way - this doesn't matter to me too much. It's a cool item that I like.

Thanks Bo, I appreciate the Disk expert’s opinion and @DracoBurns fair enough however it might just have the opposite effect and restore some balance to the OG disk, evening the tide from the nuclear disk fall out update. The wrecker/destroyer of peoples banks.

I did my part it’s out of my hands, up to the community/Jagex (any mods have opinion?)

“If anything deserves to go to the moon it’s that UFO, Disk, Halo” ;)

It will cause a frenzy for the disk (demand) thus elevating it to a higher level my opinion.

@P E S T I S , many thanks for your comment and support for the idea!!

I think if they do make a cosmetic override - they should make it different to the 'lock out players' disks to make them both unique and valued. Which is why, personally, I thought a halo sort of override would be quite neat.

@Kasiakasltv, thank you for commenting on my thread my friend, now please share your legendary stories about trading disks back in the day with these other disk fans xD

As a sidenote: Kasia is one of those merchers and friends I spoke to that now hates disks and thinks it is junk/trash item. Previously, however, he had and traded disks a LOT.

My personal speculation (which he will probably deny) is that in the past, he was a huge disk fan, until a 'merch gone wrong' turned this disk-loving OG mercher into one of the strongest disk-haters that I know. He stated to me, that at one point, he had at least 10-20 disks. From the 'anonymous disk fan' I spoke to, they stated that Kasia had once sold them many, many more. While these two accounts somewhat contradict each other - it remains that Kasia once had a large position in the Disk, despite hating the item now.

Fail to see how the new one could do this?

Jagex had to reward those ppl some how and IIRC, everyone was asking for them to including the ones not locked out.

So i fail to see why ppl are so angry about the new one when its untradeable?

To answer your question, I'm not 100% sure myself why those prices changes happened exactly. It's is an item traded so infrequently and a few players have large stacks of it. So it makes it hard to comment on what is 'really' driving prices. Many disk trades probably aren't even recorded anywhere too.

My guess is that the effect of these new disks being announced, even if they were untradable items - was similar to the news that certain tokens could be added to the oddment store. I'm not sure if it 'devalued' the disk fundamentally, but if players were speculating that these new disks might affect the original ones negatively, that could have actually have impacted prices (people panic selling + not as many people buying, waiting to see what impact new disk had) Since Disk is so infrequently traded - I think it's an item where a few trades have the potential to have a large impact on all valuations.

I'm not sure if people were 'angry' also since haven't really heard others say they were angry about the item - Jagex definitely had to compensate those players in a fair way, they were locked out for a super long time! Maybe some other disk fans just felt 'a bit disappointed' or 'a bit felt left out' would be a better way to describe feelings I've heard, and many probably didn't mind it at all!

I'm not too sure, I thought they were cool new disk related items, so naturally I was happy they created it in the first place. It was a nice way to repay the locked out players, and a cheeky nod to the story of the original rare. Others disk fans please feel free to offer your thoughts about the 'new disks' too if you want!

No, but occasionally check rare prices just to see - old habits die hard lol. I transitioned to trading crypto. But my all time favorite time trading was junk trading back in the day, and any success trading I have had I attribute to trading on RS.

I did end up with a decent supply of disks (like 20-30 of them?) at 5m each immediately before junk trading took off. I was probably able to get a couple dozen edibles instant on the GE before they got bought out... ended up with ~80 of them in total from the GE, including 2 half wines at 30m.

I believe the prices were depressed because RWTs had dumped them after one of their gp transfer methods (involving easters and pumpkins) got patched. But after getting bought out, the street values went to 300m (easter) to 1b (disk), and 5b for wines. But i'm sure most people reading this thread remember all that.

Good memories. I never had the patience for standing around flipping phats, so when junk trading ended my interest waned. I do wonder what turkeys *should* be worth nowadays though :P
