Well, in my mind it's no longer of a if but rather a when. It really wouldn't surprise me if over the years they've been working on this slowly with a small team so when they do pull the trigger they can hit the ground running.
Why I think it will happen? A lot of us are maxed, we need more goals to go for to stay interested. For those of you who think getting a 120 is hard I invite you to do 99 fishing from 76 fishing doing nothing but sharks. Using no new gear, avas, what have you than go get 120 thieving in prif. It is faster going to 120 than 99 fishing sharks. I remember as a kid(04/5) I fished 1k sharks a day, it took about a hr per 100, so 10hrs for 1k, which was 110k fishing xp. Than you thieve for 10hrs in Prif and you get 2-3m xp. So that's 1.1m/10days in fishing and 20-30m/10days thieving.
My point is, with how easy it is now to get XP once you hit 80s/90s in a stat that they should up the lvl cap, specially since they've already tested the water with Dung. Jagex seem to want to milk RS for everything its worth, so allowing new goals for players would be well worth there time. It would also add new "Elite" Items, Armor, Weaps, Training Methods that would keep people wanting more and they could slowly release things over time. T100, T110, T120.
They've already made us gods, why not keep throwing us more until Runescape dies, they can't reverse what's been done so they must keep pushing forward. If we're still playing after all the bad updates of the past than we must love this game, keep giving us more.
I kind of hope that anything that high is non tradable, or has a part that you need that you have to achieve. That way you'd want to equally train all 26+ of your skills. Certain skills like Runecrafting would help Magic, Crafting/********* would help Range, and Smithing would help Melee. Slayer monsters can also be mass released to make the advancements in combat more suitable.
Can I have my 20 year cape yet?
