I would actually hope to see 120 Summoning eventually, but I don't think that it would be the next skill to get 120. Summoning is very well balanced for the current PvM climate, Pak Yaks, Mammoths and Nihils are staples for most high level PvM setups. Not to mention, the necessary changes to combat level calculations and re-balancing current existing summons to make newer 99-120 summons more useful but not overpowered.

If we're ever going to see a 120 increase to Summoning, I expect it will either happen immediately after or preceding a larger scale update to the combat system.

I would actually expect the next 120 skill to be either Thieving or Agility.

Agility has not been getting much love lately, and its usefulness declines for non-PvMers outside of quest/task requirements. If we get Agility to 120, my guess is that it will be accompanied by an Agility re-work, to make it more universally useful to everyone. Can't imagine what this change might be, but that's one idea.

Thieving has had a few updates recently with the Thieves Guild and Safecracking, so I don't think the idea of Thieving being the next 120 is too farfetched of an idea. I would hope that Jagex does some careful considerations with the drop-tables before deciding to make this skill the next 120 though, as there is currently not much incentive to use Thieving for any reason other than to grind the skill. The NPCs that we would need to grind to get from 99-120 would need some heavy incentive to make players want to grind it.

Bear in mind, these are thoughts off the top of my head. Jagex may have some kind of genius idea to implement a new 120 skill and make it exciting that I haven't even fathomed. Regardless, I really don't think Summoning will be the next 120 skill.

@Dorvan,
Agreed.
120 Thieving seemed likely to be the next thing to hit 120. The XP rates from Safecracking, along with a few of the other thieving methods out there already make it a pretty good bet to hit it.

The only issue, much like any other skill, is what gets added to fill the rest of the levels above it.

In Thieiving, ofc your efficiency rate for picking pockets goes up. You would also see new multipliers in x5 or x6 when you try to loot. We could also see x2 in others (Priff Elves?).

We'd certainly see new safes to crack. God Wars Dungeon? KBD Lair? KQ/KK caves? Excuse me Telos/Vorago/Arraxor ... let me just loot your safe first, then I'll get back to killing you.

Would be able to try to pickpocket bosses themselves?

Why do you think thieving will be next when the reasoning for 120 thieving is also applicable to 120 summoning. In addition to that, summoning does not have the same issue of not having content to fill (I've got over 100 ideas in the thread in my signature) and its also been polled for whereas thieving was not.

No more 120s, they aren't real. Skills end at 99.
You don't get anything for going above that. Just dead content that no one uses.

99.9% of the player base has no 99s already let alone the time to get billions of XP on useless virtual levels.

Priff elves already have double loot at 85 agility.
Thieving can't go above 99 cause more thieving modifiers mean you need above 99 agility. And since there's no more 120 skills ever and they don't count anyway agility can't go above 99 either.

No 120s end of discussion.

False. Even many ironmen have 99 all skills.

YES to 120 Summon.

Off Topic:
The restructures tend to be mostly vertical (99-120), latteral leveling/unlocks need to be implemented ALSO.
W.E.'s, Quests, Skilling/Combat drops, Task sets, Dn'D participation ..Trekker's/Rambler's style mechanics for Summons?

They will be real if it comes out instead of virtual. :) That's the point!
& according to this thread, it won't be dead content, as more people would love to have 120 summoning, heck, even other 120's as well.
