I apologise for putting such a negative spin on this but what promises of actions based on suggestions by the players can Jaqex actually provide that wont fall flat on its face within a few months like everything else?

The only time I can recall that they actually took notice of players on mass and followed through was the vote whether to bring back OSRS from a magically found back up *sucpucoous at best*

We've had player surveys,Runlabs, community poles and multiple other avenues and nothing came of it I mean look at mini games they have really had a revamp... O_o

I wish the P.A.G all the best but sadly actions speak louder then words so I await to see what happens if anything.
I can agree to some extent, just perusing the forums you’ll find quite a few players / former players, disillusioned with the direction the game has gone in, and what seems to be a lack of decent communication.
That said though it’s not as if Jagex don’t listen, they’re actually pretty good at listening. From player feedback they’ve:
• reworked mining & smithing (twice)
• made additions to the F2P game to make it more enjoyable (duel wielding, etc)
• brought back Wildnerness wyrms
• created the terrorbird mount
• developed the archeology skill
• blood dye
• interface scaling.
There’s probably more, they’re just the ones I can remember. So they do listen, they just need to be better at feeding back what they’ve listened to, discussing it. Letting people know they’ve seen it.
Not sure how it is offsite, but on the Forums you only ever see a handful of Jmods commenting, Mods like Kelpie, Raven, Shaunie & more recently Kari. Players appreciate this dialogue and Id hope it’d be something Jagex do more of.

I'm willing to give the PAG a go for now. This isn't the first initiative by Jagex to listen to the players and it certainly won't be the last.

With that said, I am concerned with what the players on the PAG might suggest to Jagex. These people are far from being ordinary players and so what they might consider good content could be bad to a normal player with no social media influence.

EVE Online has a similar group known as the Council of Stellar Management (CSM). It's composed of that MMO's top personalities who have the ear of the devs. They're elected to the council by players so in theory it sounds good. The problem with this group is that they don't always have the best interests of EVE Online's playerbase as a whole. From the nerfing of capital ship warp speeds with the intent of screwing the competition to insider knowledge scandals that have led to unfair advantages for select player-run corporations. In a PvP focused MMO, this is a serious problem that must be addressed so long as the CSM continues to exist and change members.

Now, since both versions of RS are clearly PvM focused rather than PvP focused games we don't run the risk of our gaming sessions being ruined by pkers ambushing us (except in the wilderness). Still, that doesn't mean the PAG won't make suggestions that could hurt large segments of the player base.

Since the PAG is still new I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and see how things play out. Not enough time or content has come out for me to say whether or not the PAG is a good or bad thing. Once enough time has passed, I'll change my mind accordingly.

As far as I can tell the PAGs members will be changing fairly periodically Mauhur, so hopefully a handful of celebrity players won’t have a monopoly on Dev time.
I’ll agree though there’s certainly a risk that PAGs could become an exclusive club, especially if old members have a significant influence on who their replacements would be.

I will add though that currently the PAG’s aren’t playing out as I’d expected. They were announced back in April with the first team ready to go, its now 4 months later and they’ve delivered one set of projects with the PAG ninja updates.
In theory I thought they would be selecting their second team already Not because of the timespan (understandably game dev takes time). But because they’ve already delivered what they set out to do. So what’s the plan now?..

I like the concept of PAGs for helping developers focus, but I feel like Jagex needs to be mindful of who the members are.

Someone who plays the game 24/7 is going to have a different viewpoint of your average player.
A good choice would be to have a few people who run casual clans as opposed to entirely the "minmax my way through everything" gang.

Also seconding what mauhur said about representatives in other games being largely self-interested, though Runescape is the least competitive game I know of that has player representation.

Agreed paint chip, having a well-rounded group of players would hopefully lead to a well-rounded group of updates.

That said the first group did have a nice mix of updates. :)

However it’s a little concerning that we haven’t heard anything since then and I’m beginning to suspect that P.A.G’s might get quietly scrapped.
