How does this even get included? For firemaking it is limited to Elder logs or driftwood. That's just trolling, there is no way I can dig up thousands of those items.

One good reason is the Elder logs are so slow that it's hard to consider them part of the game. More like a turn based simulation.

I would need at least 5 woodcutting updates to even think about chopping those logs. The wiki says 70 per hour with all boosts. It's more like zero. I'm not going to. So quit asking.

I understand they want some guaranteed use of the skips, since they give us some for free. But these are way too obvious.

Also shoutout to the Dwarven Chainaxe for failing to cooperate.

Only the higher tiers of FM require Elder Log or Driftwoods, and it has been the case for years. It is nothing recent.

We can buy elder logs from the GE. We can also stockpile them before a Yak Track. We are always given the choice to go the skilling and killing way for all FM tasks too.

What's the problem?

That task basically was broken ever since the first iteration of the track in 2019 (albeit it hasn't always shown up and sometimes in conjunction with something non-broken, so it wasn't that obvious for quite some time) and considering they haven't touched the tasks themselves at all for so many tracks now it's unlikely it'll ever be fixed - except when some woodcutting rework would happen, which also is unlikely enough.

Better to grit your teeth and do the skill/kill alternative or to use a skip (but I mean - you still have almost 10 weeks left...). I mean if somebody thinks it's reasonable to burn 1500 elder logs - I guess... sure...
Improvements: Tooltip / (F2P) QoL v2
Quick Fixes: Invention

Things can't be broken when there are options and at least one of the options are good.

Yak Tracks are evolving and seemingly still changing in every recent iteration. Jagex is still experimenting with it. I don't doubt further changes will come. Maybe we can even get a 3rd option to complete a tier. The quite noticeable fact is despite all the continuing changes, we are given options, always, for different kinds of players, and they never delay or cancel the other options to favor a lone option.

The problem is its broken when neither option is good. As the OP said obtaining the elder logs for task 57 is expensive, time consuming (taking longer then the 270 minutes for the skill and kill), or difficult or impossible to do at the required level. Its clear to see this (and several others) were added as SKIP BURNERS in order to fill Jagex's pockets as MTX is ALWAYS foremost in their minds.

I have no doubt that the Jagex Forum World Guardian will say "Oh we should be happy to pay extra money to complete this and thank Jagex for the option to once again take our money" as that is the only good option in his mind to complete this.

-----

That being said, during the time between Yaks, I daily collect my free logs from Coeden in Prif and have gotten more then enough to complete the task. Perhaps this should serve as a lesson to prepare ahead of time because they will ALWAYS try to throw this stuff at you to get what they want.

THAT will never change.

When you said there is no good option on one hand, then told us you collected your free logs from Coeden in Priff and have more than enough to complete the task, you literally have suggested and agreed with me (Page 1, Post 2) this is indeed a very good option to complete the task. Thank you very much and I certainly think plenty of RSOF users will find this info very helpful. :)

I can actually add to this option and provide even more helpful info. I have WC challenge daily. I got 10 more Elder logs saved up daily for Yak Tracks, and have far far far more Elder logs than I need to complete a Yak Track. This FM task is actually one of the easiest Yak Track task, one of my favorites.

Options, as referred to by the OP and others including yourself (Page 1, Post 2) are those offered by Jagex in the Yak Track. EG burn 1350 Elder logs, Waste 4 hours 30 minutes game time, or buy/use a skip. None of which are good options. Preparation is not an option, its advice and not available on a current time scale.

You dont offer it as advice, you use it as "I told you so" which is destructive not constructive and no one wants to hear it other then yourself and does not add to the conversation.

-----

A constructive comment would be for Jagex to add a third option to this and all "Item" tasks that require gaining experience in the given skill at the maximum amount for the maximum item.
i.e. 1350 driftwood (the max item for this task) yield 612900 exp. therefore gaining the equal amount of 612900 exp in firemaking by any means would complete the task.

This would be harder but fairer then the current means and allow for non-conventional training methods such as curly roots and elder god arrows for firemaking, crystal trees for woodcutting, seren stones for mining, ect...the list goes on and on, but the point is it allows for less contention with players and gives people like the OP a GOOD option for completing the task.

We don't waste anything burning Elder Logs. We get xp as well as Yak Track progress among other benefits doing so. This is especially good when we get bonus xp from every Yak Track and it stacks with Knowledge Bombs, especially making skill training during Yak Track pretty close to DXP. Brawling Gloves stack too, and they can't be used in DXP Live. So essentially we get much better xp with Brawling Gloves FMing than even in DXP Live! Great deal and great time to do it now actually.

We can double our WC outputs with Dwarven Chansaws too. Really no sweats.

I don't mind having a 3rd Yak Track options though. Actually, I have been thinking about (1) Skill and Kill, (2) xp base progress (3) quantity based progess.
