I must admit I'd never expect to get something awesome out of them - I'll just take with me what I can. At least they got rid of that scenario, that when you've already gotten a golden present you still could end up just with 50k oddments or so (which by now are even more worthless than half a year ago).

But then to see how many papers TH spilled out again in comparison to what you can get ingame - it's really just another MTX promotion.

To me, getting Yak Tracks totally free with Gold Premier Club is always something very awesome, as other companies usually charge their players at least $10 for similar season passes.

Holiday events like Presents from the Hedges are more sweeteners for Jagex's membership derivatives. We should be just glad to always get free items from these events. They are bonuses, and if we get an ultra rare item, it is just super bonus.

Not sure if it's just me but is 'Presents from the Hedge' heavily biased against non-members and/or iron accounts? I've had a couple of purple parcels and all I've received is oddments. Surely at least one of the rewards should be guaranteed to be a cosmetic token? In contrast, on my members account, if I've received a purple present, I've always got a more interesting selection of rewards. I appreciate Jagex wants to convince everyone to become a member, but this hardly reflects the spirit of Christmas. :(

Massively disappointed that some rewards from 'Presents from the Sledge' are MEMBERS ONLY. :( I received a snowman resting token but as a non-member cannot open it. Given that this is the sole Christmas activity this year ( no quest or new Christmas event) surely Jagex could have ensured that the rewards are available to everyone? As an iron account, I can't even sell the tokens. A real kick in the teeth for players who for whatever reason cannot convert to membership at this time ( cost of living crisis in the UK comes to mind).

Part of me wonders if the mechanics behind the Frank's Free Chest key are a trial run for a replacement to the whole "get XP every 3 minutes if you want rewards" thing. FFC's keys are given at strict intervals regardless of what you're doing; sure, it opens up the possibly of just idling to take part in the event, but it also means that you can take part in the event while participating in activities that don't normally trigger the "get XP" mechanic, like clues, bankstanding, or community content like queuing for bosses or minigames (not to mention that not every skilling activity triggers the "get XP" mechanic for some reason)

Just something to think about, anyway. It'd be far from the first time that Jagex has sneakily used a limited time event to test the waters for a larger change.

You could keep them until you can become a member again. Bank space in f2p - while a bit limited - no longer is closely as scarce as it historically was. I do agree though, players should be able to redeem the tokens as a free player, since you're able to obtain them in the first place.

Unless the amount of time needed to progress is significantly worsened (like their guaranteed skill/kill alternative in yak tracks became just that compared to the original tasks, that just popped up every once in a while), I see this system as highly preferably to status quo.

By its base idea it just offers so much more freedom in what you could do and obviously they wouldn't need to fix some random niche cases anymore, players would like to do, but just can't since it doesn't work for reasons within that broken system. Of course if they were to abuse the idea to require similar amount of progress drops, but only award them let's say every 5 minutes... it could still be a net positive for most players I guess...
