Runescape is an MMO, wdym? New content like this always induce players to engage with the content (regardless of the subjective level of enjoyment -or lack thereof-), unlock the rewards and either keep it or leave it. Typical player behavior.
There are obviously plenty of low to mid level players doing farm runs now. Those players are typically more focused on profits than achievements like Comp.
We are also going to get heaps of obviously non-comp players from FSW in a couple of months. Hardly anybody is Comp'ed in FSW, but those 6k peak concurrent players are mostly doing farm runs.

how many of that 6k are actually new/old returning players? Did u take into account a the alts that people made to farm halos/capes? I doubt 6k "new" players are gonna stick around after FSW

Plenty of the are new and returning players as they evidently are doing old things the new way.
If they don't plan to stay they won't be doing content like the new farming as farming herbs is not good xp.

yeah it is currently and will be again once cross world presence drops
Cross World Presence won't give us as much massively multiplayer feeling as open world content with a diversified but yet cooperating groups of players.
Cross World Presence is more like a visual chat room. We are confined to a small area like an instance resembling the GE and such. Most players aren't interested to hang out around the GE anyway.

You give people some perks and everybody thinks that they are farmers now.
They need to give a variety of balanced perks to different kinds of game content so all kinds of players can enjoy the same massively multiplayer RS3.
Farming perks this month, but not farming update every month. And far more importantly not farmers go to farming game mode, pvmers go to bossing game mode, pvpers go to pvp worlds, questers go to speedrunning game mode etc.

Looks pretty dead to me aside from people doing the herb patch for rewards even with dxp still going on unless it's a populated world the knights are already empty
