AFK

AFK training is Away From Keyboard training. While you are playing on our games, you must be at the computer. Away-from-keyboard training is not allowed, and you should log out when you leave the computer.

To keep RuneScape enjoyable for everyone, please observe and follow our rules. We will not tolerate disruptive players, and if you break our rules your account is likely to be banned or muted. Members who are banned or muted for breaking our rules are not entitled to any sort of refund.
When you
leave
the computer ... and how or under what kind of circumstances, people may start to fantasize about ... and said player is no longer in control of the computer, anyone should log out.

Nice fantasy world you live in there, trying to dictate what people should do. I am glad I am not part of it.

Rules in the past often don't apply to the present and very likely not in the future.

We already have plenty of AFK training methods in RS3. Real players need to go to the bathroom, make popcorns, walk the dog etc often. When I make protean items that take 5 minutes per batch, I often walk away from my computer (of course, not when I am playing on mobile).

When Jagex made this rule, it was probably 20 years ago when there were no mobiles and consoles perhaps. Keyboards? Definitely not applicable to mobile and rarely do console players use keyboards.

BTW, Jagex has actually talked about offline training with the leaked "Runescape Remastered". They no longer have the same "AFK rule" in the past in their mind now. Who will be around their screen and keyboard (if they still use one) when we play the game offline?

If they make this an idle game, I will not be around at all anymore, that is for sure. I don't play games by not playing them.

The rule of AFK training really goes hand in hand with the automatic logout. If you have zero interaction in 5 minutes or if you have a jagex account linked up is now 10 minutes. If by chance you remain logged in beyond those 2 markers then you're circumventing the automatic logout which of course is breaking the rules.

However if you're more inclined to run and get a snack or answer natures call and are back before the automatic logout no harm done. The whole thing of not leaving your machine unattended, stems from the "We are responsible for whatever infractions our character commits" So if you walk away and someone does something nefarious that's on you. However if in my case I know nobody in my household will touch my machine when I walk away, I've nothing to fear as I'm not doing anything that would get me in trouble.

The problem comes from those that screw around with their hardware forcing it to create multiple inputs like jamming a coin beneath a key so it constantly generates inputs so you never logout.

So when they updated the Macroing / using 3rd party programs. People read that as fully automated bots as all the examples were removed. It used to list out hardware / babysitting your character but still using macros. Now reading the rule it looks as if it regards just full automation.

They will never make, and probably can never make, this an idle game. We definitely can't kill most of the bosses by idling.

Games like RS3 are getting more flexible in AFK gameplays in this modern time, but they aren't idle games. Even if they aren't action games, they are also not the Animal Crossing or Palia types.

As I mentioned, I can see many games will have AI assited gameplays in the future, and not only idle or AFK features. We may see games like RS3 to have Jagexa to chop and collect 200 logs in the Varrock Forest but we won't have Jagexa killing 100 4k Enraged Telos while we are sleeping. Skills (by real life definitions not the "skills" like Firemaking and Agility in RS games) and abilities are still very much needed and can't be "idled".

:) I Always like your detailed well written gaming information.

At the moment these 'Old statements' are still uphold as when Jagex/JMods started developing/making RuneScape but they are more & more intertwined with other rules so it looks like Jagex/JMods had left them but that's a hoax.

I hope that Jagex/JMods will develop more and more content where you have to gather exp/coins(gp)/items just alike the '
pumpkins
' at Halloween.

If you aren't there, if you are AFK, you'll miss the chance to get what you are working for and have to wait if there's a second chance or more.

The era of '
AFK
' should be over ... '
done
'.

Think about it ... as a player ... why would demand for new content - better graphics - more rewards etc. etc. as all what you love to do is ...AFK?

Think about it ... as a developer ... why would you work for a company to only develop AFK content?

There will always be content like this... like Seren Spirits.

However, it is pretty much proven modern players also like content they don't have to be there 24/7 and still get the fun and profits. Look at POF farmhands for an example. Do you want to hire farmhands to tend to the farm animals for you and you can go to sleep and come back tomorrow and get your animals and beans?

Future AFK/offline content greatly favorable to most players, both modern and old ones will be like hiring Jagexa as a farmhand, and she will also make sure the animals are well fed and healthy, of course for a price of gp. They won't come for free and there is a delicate limit on what Mod AI will do for us and how much we want to sink our gp for our entertainment and convenience.

It seems that you do not like RuneScape at all ... but like its benefits to do something else and use RuneScape for it.

It seems like you do not like Runescape at all... and/or you haven't played it for years.

We had POF since 2018 and farmhands since 2019. They are nothing new now. I certainly enjoy this newer farming training method. I believe most RS3 players do too, and thus RS3 even added POF2 or RooT.
