80% of the playerbase afks its not against the rules and they increased logout timer to 10 minutes for jagex accounts. Why do you think they create all these unlimited afk events like the beach? You are reading outdated rules.

Why would you afk? Why would you bot? Surely if you play a game, you "play a game". How can you be playing if you are not there to do it? Anything other than actually playing the game has got to be some form of cheating both the game and your ability to play and progress in the game. It's clearly dishonest in some form, and against the spirit of gaming.

AFK is a natural part of the game, because you don't constantly click on things.

If for instance you woodcut an elder tree, it takes 5 minutes to either cut the tree down, or to fill your inventory. That is 5 minutes where are not doing anything. Does it then make any difference if you look at the screen or not? I don't see how. It is build into the game that you should do nothing for 5 minutes, but you are still playing the game.

Also, there are no random events anymore to punish you if you are not paying attention. They were all taken out of the game, so it is clearly ok now.

Botting is another thing. Then you are not playing the game. Your computer is playing the game for you.

I disagree that AFK is a natural part of the game ...

It all depends on your mindset and how someone is thinking about how to use their computer and standard hardware/software that is available in front of them.
There's so much possible ...

How can anyone prove someone is AFK?

I do it and I know millions of others do too.

Remember the CoC is as old as the roads leading to Rome.

I have yet to hear of a single person being Warned or Banned for being AFK. I've been here over 20 years too.

If anyone is worried take the keyboard with you. ;)
Face-recognition for example ...

Then why are there things in the game where you just click once and then sit back for minutes doing nothing? Cutting elder trees, mining corrupt ores, fighting monsters with aggression potions, archaeological excavations, anything where you use grace of the elves, so your inventory doesn't fill up and stops you. You are litterally not touching your keyboard for some amount of time. How far away are you allowed to be? Must you constantly stare at the screen for it to not be cheating?

Games will embrace AFK features vastly in the future, when voice recognition technologies become a big and cheap part of most games, especially mobile.

Essentially, we can legitimately use our unique voices to identify ourselves and we can be meters away from our keyboard. Who care about keyboard anyway when we can control our gaming devices our voices anyway?

Hey! Anybody remember this innovating RS3 April Fools joke in 2018? Jagexa will be our AFK gaming thing in the future (of course it won't be called Jagexa if Jagex is no longer Jagex), no joke:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pPVkC_n6ys

We are already using our voices as our unique signatures and passwords for many everyday activity such as banking with many big businesses for years. Whatever we see 60 years ago in The Jetsons like playing games with our voices are already beginning to take shape. Voice recognition technologies can stop bots effectively too as it is hard for botters to generate over 9,000 different unique voices.

The answer is quite simple ... '
socializing/talking with other players
'.
There are a lot of players whom like to familiarise with socializing, interact with large portions of other players around the Globe. As well as getting in contact with Jagex/JMods.

What if in the near future you'll have to pay for Social Media, ... RuneScape has its own channel of contact ingame through the '
chat-system
' ... for free.

What if I want to socialize with the people in the room I am in, while the game plays itself? Isn't that even better? I will rather have real friends than virtual friends.

How about both real and virtual friends?

Now that MSFT have bought ABK, Metaverse is on its way. It is going to bring not just real and virtual friends together, but also real world businesses into the mix too.

Most popular games won't require clicking our fingers off in a few years.

We are going to have a lot of AFK features in the Metaverse era of online games.

Power your dreams! ;)
