If i look at the rating in the google playstore this seems to be because one app is bad and the other isn't. 3.1 and 4.5. They will always try the higher one first. And there seems to be something wrong with an app with such low score.
So either there is something wrong, or we have a toxic community which prefer one game over the other and make dirty reviews, or the review and rating was made when there was problems with the app. I do not know.

Gamers/Players are free to choose which game they prefer and when, because there are many players whom contribute to both versions of RuneScape.
There's nothing toxic other than people who wanna stereotype others.
estimates 855,594 daily players for RuneScape, and 2,274,221 daily players for OSRS.
Thanks for posting this source of information.
Throughout the years players, many times, have used those numbers to hold a debate or construed their arguements but most of times nothing good came out of these discussions/debates.
The only conclusion we can make is is that RuneScape is still 'hot' among gamers and always will be in the future.
Of course nothing good came out of such "debate" because concurrent players are meaningless and mean very different things, and calculate/guesstimate very differently from game to game.
Real life case of Fukong Interactive with Shanghai Stock Exchange when the former owned Jagex we can look at. Originally they filed their official annual financial reports of Jagex with only references to outside sources they found on "popularity", "guestimations" etc. They were not acceptable by the Chinese stock exchange. They were ordered to provide material numbers or otherwise be delisted, and that's why we got to know how many actual active and members Jagex had, and together with it the actual growth of RS3 and lack of from OSRS.
Moral of the story: we can't argue with the governments with such "real numbers" and we better don't.
Some people may believe OSRS is the number one MMORPG in online player based on the "real numbers" (in their opinion only) from that specific website, but the reality is if you take this to the governments, stock exchanges and accredited consumer bureaus the chance is you will get ridiculed, and perhaps there will be an formal inquiry to Jagex as some famous video game critics opined.

I really have no idea how the rating of a specific app on a specific platform has anything to do with its "online players" and "player" numbers. When we look at the very same RS3 and OSRS in the Apple Stores, we can see RS3 is ranked #172 in adventure and OSRS is behind it and ranked #181. So according to your reasoning that's because one app is bad... and they will always try the higher one RS3 first, and there seems to be something wrong with OSRS for its lower ranking???
If you turn to Steam now, there is simply no comparison. RS3 flat out has many times more online players and rank far higher than OSRS in that category as OSRS has about the least online players among all better known MMORPGs.

Best is to use the info from the official jagex sites- RS and OSRS. There are currently 107k active players on OSRS and 30K in RS3, this should give an idea about the players gap between the two games.
Best is to distinguish the differences between online players, players, active players etc because they all mean totally different things.
We definitely should know Jagex has millions of active players. We may refer to the over 8 million active players Jagex reported through Fukong Interactive. We have far, far more than just a mere 100k active players in Jagex's games.

Best is to stay on topic and not talk about other jagex games as we are talking about OSRS and RS3 numbers. Right now, in regards to OSRS and RS3, OSRS has about x4 or x5 more active players than RS3 does, according to the official websites.
"Online players" aren't the same as "active players" in both RS3 and OSRS. It is best for Jagex to understand and do what they have been told by the real life authorities, and done so accordingly.

If every day theres this difference of 100-130k people playing OSRS compared to the 30-35k ppl playing RS3 then thats your active player base difference.
