Jagex could release it as a mobile game I suppose if enough people genuinely want it back. Might be popular there, but I doubt it.

Oh YES, just spend god knows how much developer time (and money) porting the entire game over to mobile, where you admit it probably won't be popular anyway.

Sheer genius.

If battlebit is really getting 100k online and minecraft is as popular as ever then they could tap into the market without spending a penny. Look around for another developer with experience in these styles and offer to licence the rights.

None of these are simple, old MMORPG that RSC and OSRS are. When OSRS is having such a problem with mobile, what makes you think Jagex can even put RSC on mobile, and I am not even talking about how long and how much money Jagex will be losing upfront.

How will Jagex lose money if someone else is developing? Read what I said again. They could even partner with someone to turn RSC into a chibi style game. Runescape as a franchise is famous. Jagex can and should profit from licensing.

Aren't you suggesting Jagex to develop RSC Mobile? If so, they are going to lose big money given OSRS Mobile is really a technical mess.

No I am not suggesting Jagex develop RSC mobile, I have said TWICE now thay they should partner with another developer. They can turn it into chibi or w/e then jagex will receive royalty fees. The percentage of that will depend on how much the upfront costs were shared.

Didn't Jagex partner with Melvor Idle where they didn't have to worry about their own old school technical problems they might never have a solution?

That's the idea of the Jagex Partners initiative. They are partnering with developers with their own established product, not Jagex's own old stacks they vowed to remove as per their lastet official Financial Report summitted to the UK Companies House.

They can throw it in the trash can if they want to, sure. But the more I think about how popular chibi style is with kids, the more I think they could offer it up to somebody and see if it can live again in a new guise. Up to them ofc.

When OSRS doesn't even have its own graphics update, what makes you think they will have "chibi" or whatever graphics styles for kids in the even older RSC. The even more serious and practical question again is can RSC technically and feasibly do it?

The other developer would start again. Nothing would have to be converted. The new company would just use the name, that's all. Then develop a spin off RSC chibi game that was broadly based on the original, but with fun cartoony graphics. Jagex would get a percentage of profits through the licensing fee and also kids playing that might migrate to RS3 as they get older.

Who are the new company and why should Jagex give them their codes? Jagex just bought a gun for hire developer in Pipeline Studios. They have their own company and developers to develop new games. They are going to give their games to just a random developer and risk having over 9,000 illegal private servers. :D
