Moving away from an official forum to specifically using third party social websites as a means of communication is an absolutely terrible look and overall a bad idea!

The "mods" over at /r/runescape weren't vetted, they weren't assigned, they were hand picked by faceless nameless figures who we know nothing about, that's who controls your ability to post, what you post, whether or not you get to voice your opinion etc..

I've had COUNTLESS experiences with being banned from /r/runescape AND the discord over the most trivial small thing, allow me to name a few;

• Banned on /r/RuneScape for posting a picture of a list of bots at Luminite botting
• Banned for telling someone to GTFO after they called me a racial slur
• Banned from the RuneScape discord for making a complaint regarding a recent update
• Banned from RuneScape discord for saying I don't like pitbulls and they're a bad breed of dog (REALLY)

Also have to complain regarding the gatekeeping, the majority of the time when attempting to post on /r/RuneScape, your posts will be "held" until some greasy faceless "mod" decides whether or not your opinion is allowed before approving it

It's also not just the approval process, the "mods" there will remove your post if it';s even SLIGHTLY critical of Jagex and will claim some bullshi*t excuse to justify the removal and locking, take for example my recent complaint about the Santas Grotto promotion, my post was completely valid, yet my post was removed because "someone else complained" and therefore it was deemed a duplicate post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/runescape/comments/18oc4rl/scummy_jagex_at_it_again_big_shocker/

The mods basically said only 1 person is allowed to have an opinion about a topic, any other posts or opinions will be removed as duplicates

Overall, our fate shouldn't rest in the hands of these clowns, the forums simply need a revamp, modernization, moving away from this archaic style and onto something more modern.

Edit - Cant post since forums are closed

Page 5 "Follow" the owner/creator of the /r/RuneScape subreddit makes up frivilous claims about me saying I posted racism, transphobia and says my reddit posts are worthless

https://secure.runescape.com/m=forum/c=G5IXra9On3w/forums?14,15,200,66293076,goto,5

I implore/beg you to post a single shred of proof backing up your claims, as I never even mentioned my reddit username to begin with, and the account I used to post this thread was a throwaway, this was its only post

https://www.reddit.com/r/runescape/comments/195mj37/do_other_players_drops_affect_my_drops/

"Follow" I challenge you publicly to share ANY evidence, otherwise you can retract your false claims about me

For any potential readers, THIS IS EXACTLY why we need to NOT switch to reddit, these are the people running the show, they will make up false claims about you, completely baseless claims, to try and turn public opinion against you and to silence you.

This was my first reaction when I read the newspost. The only reason I have not moved to Reddit is because of the over the top moderation to the point where I felt like I was being extremely censorshipped. Topics that would not at all ever be a problem here on the Forum even when Jagex was more censored and age appropiate back in the day, and when the Forum was a lot more active.

I am happy with their decision because this place is dead. But I would like to hear form Jagex on them making steps that remove the over-moderatation from these platforms. If someone posts something that 99% disagree with, it needs to be allowed because that 1 persons opinion does matter and disagreement is what creates discourse. Discourse is what leads to people understanding things differently, from both sides. The opposite of that is what the define as trolling, shit-talking, meming the web etc.

Honestly I am very happy to see that the first post I read about this, is about the exact issue I have problems with lol...

I don't even post things that are controversial. I am by far someone who gets into any right or left debates that can cause offense. Yet, my simple posts have been removed over the most stupid reasons.

I'm just wondering if perhaps Jagex wants it to be that way? A lot of UK company's are becoming more and more politically correct, prime example would be the recent content about gender identity etc.

I'm a supporter of gender identity, using the right pronouns etc, but to define Reddit quickly... me even saying this and making a conversation out of it would be removed instantly lol.

And I guess that's the type of stuff which is a bit more on the thin line - the things I've posted about like bots, player count, MTX... heck, even a post about my memories as a teenager got rejected lol, all for dumb reasons that gave a overwhelming feeling of control, over moderation.

It could also be part of the trend "discord mod" which basically is a funny way to summon on moderators these days in Twitch chats, discords, reddits etc, where they're basically no one special but have such privilage make them special and they can control the narative. A quick google I found a definiton: "ruling over a server filled with thousands of people gives them a sense of power thus leading to abusing it".

We've never really had this issue with Forum Mods, probably because they follow guidelines going back before "discord mod behaviour" became a thing. Heck, going back almost 20 years of these forums!

I flat out refuse to use that cesspool known as Reddit. To me it screams 1984, and pure fascism. Heaven forbid that one has an opinion that differs from the sheeple there. Don't ever think the reason I am peaceful is because I do not know how to be violent.

Exactly my point, you literally can't have a unique thought there without issues like downvoting, banning, silencing etc

as if you could tell someone to GTFO on the runescape forums either lol.

and the dude above talking about gender identity randomly, it already screams to me that there is probably a solid reason why he might not be welcome on reddit, just saying it's a red flag.

"I'm a supporter of gender identity, using the right pronouns etc, but to define Reddit quickly... me even saying this and making a conversation out of it would be removed instantly lol."

if you've had posts removed while talking about your opinions on gender identity that's a bit yikes.

and talking about reddit using terms like fascism haha

I looked at the reddit post announcing the closure of RSF and the common comment that I see was how F Mods on here were muting and banning over pointless things too.

I noticed it to be an issue on RSF more than anywhere else.
