Hey, I've got a question about inactive trade offers in GE.
Does logging in on the website or companion app counts as an actual login to reset the 7 day timer?
I'm not sure, but my guess is no.
Since you can put offers in the grand exchange I thought that it would also count towards a login because you are using the ge

Maybe, I'm not sure. The reason I guessed "no" is because the inactive offers system existed before the companion app, so it might not recognize companion app logins as "real" logins.
How do the GE mechanics work when say there are tons of players buying air runes at the same price? Do older offers get higher 'weight' for allocations when airs are sold at that price? Or is it a rolls based system such as in combat? Or does buy-offer age not matter in high volume runes?
Finance, thanks for this guide! As an economics and finance major, it was a fascinating read.

The section on old vs new offers mentions this: "In the event of an exact tie in price, the older offer is prioritized.
The level of priority given to an older offer is influenced by how much older the offer is. Offers that are days older will receive near absolute priority, while offers that are placed around the same time might split about 75%/25% in favor of the older offer. So offers placed around the same time at exactly the same price roughly take turns."
One problem in your logic. If everyone were to NOT instabuy or instasell, then no trades would ever be made. xD Eventually one person has to give in and make the loss or there is no transaction and so its useless for everyone. So when I say "loss" it's better than stagnant (no money flow).
Other than that I want to thank you for being concise with this. I am happy that you go out of your way not only to write this, but also maintain it years later. A top guy and should become Pmod *hint*.
In a certain sense you're right--no trading would occur if nobody instabought/instasold something--but the only way people actually figure out the instabuy/instasell prices is by instabuying/instaselling.
So this is how merchanting activity benefits other players. Merchants ensure that anyone trying to place a quick trade gets a fair price. The more merchants in the market, the closer you would expect the instabuy/instasell prices to become.
When I say don't instabuy/instasell something, I'm mostly talking about big purchases, in other words, purchases that are a significant portion of your account's net worth. For small purchases, you're just wasting your time attempting to save 1k.
The 75/25 split describes whether the offer matches to you. The determination of who gets money back is entirely based on who places the first offer.
Thanks for your compliment, and I'm glad you liked the guide!
If I become f2p, will an item buying still in a members only ge slot go inactive, even if I am still logging in regularly?
