Yea, for ASA to hit high at all you need to have most of your prayer points, even missing just 100 points ASA will hit significantly lower. Best tactic would be to drink a prayer/restore pot once you're down ~50-100 prayer to help ASA. I don't know why its so drastic a change as your prayer falls. Noticed this effect when Blackston first started using it after EoC, saying it wasn't hitting at all, and while I was recoiling Abby Demons with Melee Prot on. The hits just dropped so much when prayer was being drained.
Since you're also 61 deff try using the reflect ability, you have to cast a curse spell then use your basic abilities to build adrenaline. Reflect will drop high hitting boss much faster than standard recoiling.
