Just got scammed earlier this morning. Rather simple system someone can fall into. Care.
Trying to make some money, I was looking for people trying to buy items past the Grand Exchange trade limit. I'm speaking of things such as Logs and Runes which you can only buy 25000 each every 4 hours. Figured I would buy the 25000 of said item for the player, he/she would pay a small amount over. Win/Win for both players.
What ended up happening though, was someone asked for an odd item I have never seen or heard of. "Antlers". The scammer told me he was looking to buy 10 of them, as he was "Past his trade limit" apparently. Again, I knew nothing of the item and I'm looking to make some quick cash. He says they won't sell for anything less than 10k each. I then bought the 10 antlers, lost that 100k, and tried to sell them to him. He disappeared and I was left with, as I realized afterwards, about 500 gold in merchandise for 100k.
Long story short, the scammer sets an item at a ridiculous price and convinces another player that he can't buy any more due to a trade limit. Thinking you will get your return on said item, you buy them and lose money since the other person won't follow through with their side of the deal.
I don't know if this is a reportable offense or not. You convince another player to pay too much for something, then don't follow up on the trade.
Yes... I'm a ******* xD After looking back at the whole situation, I could have looked up the item firsthand, decided to deal in a more known item, or just sensed the scam and ignore it.
These scams do happen. They actually happen faster than you think, and can grow out of control quickly if you aren't careful.
