I completely understand and agree with what you said. The only thing I feel that I should add on is that with a single value PC, I think there would be a bit more of an understanding that the PC is only a rough idea of what past trades were roughly valued at, whereas a range gives the impression that all trades are currently taking place within said range.
I believe, however, that of the people that do trades hats, the majority likely only use the range with a great deal of discretion and depend more on what they hear on the street. Typically ranges are not complained about for losing these people lots of money by having the ranges being outdated, but rather simply for the fact that they are outdated.
But I agree with what others have said that one of the greatest issues surrounding ranges is, was, and always will be the legitimacy behind the reports, and unfortunately, I see no easy fix to this problem. With the exception of requesting that Jagex increase the value of Max Cash, I think that we currently have the best system for accepting reports possible at this time with the resources given to us.
