Kandarin Unification: Patriotic in Scope or Wantonly Nationalist?
...During the reign of King Lathas, pan-Kandarin sentiments were clamped down on. Lathas, being a cautious and shrewd ruler, wanted all nationalist sentiments to be centered on the city of Ardougne and its dominions, rather than some xenophobic quest for human dominion over human lands. Lathas found the supporters of pan-Kandarinism to be largely poor rabble, but exploited it when it was convenient. This natural reticence, however, put him in conflict with the paramilitary Noxious Gladiators of his Kingdom. The Gladiators wanted war for Seers Village and Camelot, and this was the perfect excuse.
Now that Thoros is King of our realm, these beliefs are being supported everywhere, even in the territories of other human-majority Kingdoms. A group of rebels in Catherby have been making trouble for decades now, but their efforts were merely a nuisance to the powerful Kingdom of Ashdale. Sitting on their western border, Catherby is easily one of Ashdale's most isolated principalities since travel across the White Wolf Mountain makes logistics difficult. Recently, this rebellion, the "Independent Catherby Movement", has gained steam. Rumor has it that this movement is supplied and trained by the Noxious Gladiators of Ardougne, though the crown officially denies this.
Will this lead to war over Catherby? Are the Gladiators becoming too independent? Only time will tell.
