From the diary of Eleven Bravo

A gravel agitator

Day 8, moving south:

We head out today. South to Camelot.

The lay of the land is becoming more familiar to us. Some can remember hunting in these fields. With the help of the Sinclairs, we hunted and filled our sacks full of supplies. Where are the horses in this land? We learned of the warring elves in the west with the old kingdom in the east. Scouted the lands all around us. Old scrolls we find along the way have been helpful with information on the other kingdoms as well.

"Camelot" I said to myself today. Our travels are about to come to an end. But I feel the journey is just beginning. How will King Arthur receive us. Surely he must have known we would return? What lands will we live on if we are shunned? We will seek his audience soon and find out.

Stories, and tales of great fleets in the south sea's fighting it out in new warfare. Treaties, embassies, spies, sellswords, the loyal, the liar's and thieves. All of which makes the leaders cautious.
As I am just a lowly foot soldier,
I'm thankful for that.

======== Ship Rework ======== (Again)

============ Ship stats ============

All ships will have 4 stats (taken from Player Owned Ports).

Combat
Morale
Seafaring
Speed

All begin at 1. A ship is then designed for one of the stats. The stat it is designed for gets 2 in that stat. Every ship may store up to 20 resources, and every ship has room for 5 crew members and 1 captain.

======= Crew =======

Every crew member boosts a stat by 1. Each ship holds a maximum of 5 crew, and you are able to change a maximum of 1 crew member per ship per week by moving a ship to a friendly port. Crew members should be specified for lore/flavor reasons. The Archetypes below give ideas for which types of crew members should boost which stats:

Crew Archetypes:
Combat: Knights, Mages, Warriors, Rangers, and the like
Morale: Religious figures, Intimidating figures, Tyrants, Musicians, Entertainers, Performers
Seafaring: Sea creatures, Sailors, Seers, Flying creatures
Speed: Mages, Tinkerers, Engineers, Inventors

Crew should be recruited from places that make sense in lore. Be creative with crew!

Example Crew:
2 Seasingers (Seafaring), 1 Cyclops (Morale), 1 Eastern Pirate (Combat)

Each ship has 1 captain. Captains should ideally be people from the ship's POC. They should choose stat boosts that match their characters.

For example, if Cain Dundragon was a captain, he would probably have +2 Morale. A captain can have one +2 bonus, or two +1 bonuses.

======== Stats ========

Combat determines how well your ship does in a fight.

When a combat encounter occurs (can be multiple ships on both sides)....

- Add up the Combat stats for each side. Then, find the total Combat of all participating ships. Call this total X.
- Roll 1dX. If the roll is less than or equal to the Combat of the attackers, then the attackers win. Otherwise, the defenders win.

The winning side can then decide if they want to attempt to capture or sink each of the losing side's ships. At this time, the losing ships may "self-destruct" to avoid being captured, should they so choose.

Otherwise, on the losing side, have each ship roll 1d10.
- If the ship in question is trying to be sunk, then have the ship roll 1d10. If the roll is less than or equal to the Seafaring of the ship, then the ship escapes and does not sink. Otherwise, it is destroyed.
- If the ship in question is trying to be captured, then have the ship roll 1d10. If the roll is less than or equal to the Seafaring of the ship + 1, then the ship escapes and is not captured. Otherwise, it is captured. The crew of a captured ship abandons the ship, and the captured ship is towed back to a nearby port (-1 speed).

Morale: Represents the number of weeks a ship can be at sea before the crew get antsy or revolt. If a ship remains at sea for longer than the Morale score, have that ship roll 1d10. If the roll is less than or equal to the ship's Morale, the ship stays at sea. Otherwise, the crew abandons ship, and the ship is lost. If the Morale roll is a 10, then the morale is so bad that the ship sails to the nearest enemy/foreign port and joins their cause instead. There is a cumulative -1 penalty for each week the ship remains at sea.

Seafaring is used to help ships escape from sinking/capture.

The speed of a ship is the number of squares it can move in a week. Diagonal movement counts as 1.5 squares, rounded down.

========= Ship Orders =========

- Attack another ship, or join a large battle of ships.

- Explore the seas off the map for resources (North, South, East, or West).

- Head to a friendly/allied port or claim.

- Form a blockade around a claim or an island.

- Raid a claim for resources.

- Sail to a claim and trade.

Blockades: 3 or more ships are required to set up a blockade. A blockade may be formed in a sea square or around an island. If a blockade is centered around a claim, that claim's resources may not be collected. If a blockaded is formed in a sea square, normal movement in that square is prohibited without permission.

There are two ways to deal with blockades.
1) Attack the blockade (handled via ship to ship combat rules).
2) Outrun the blockade (handled as ship to ship combat, but using speed instead of combat). If outrunning fails, it becomes a ship to ship combat scenario.

Exploring the Seas
A ship can be sent to explore the seas off the map (whichever is closest). The ship must have enough Speed and Morale to reach the edge of a map. For every week a ship is off the map, the ship will find 1dX resources of a random type, where X is the Seafaring of that ship.

The resource type is determined by rolling 1d7 (Wood, Ore, Flax, Fish, Energy, Runes, Gold). If Gold comes up, the ship finds a chest with the roll times 1000 gold. (e.g. if you roll a 5, you find 5000 gold). If a ship obtains more than 20 resources, excess resources are wasted.

Morale still impacts ships off the map. If a ship stays at sea for too long, it has a chance to revolt.

=====Example Ships=====

Blockade Runner (built for Speed)
Combat 1
Morale 1
Seafaring 1
Speed 9

Crew: 3 Dwarven inventors (speed), 2 Gnomes (speed)
Captain +2 Speed

This ship is built for one purpose: to quickly outrun blockades.

Balanced Warship (Built for Combat)
Combat 5
Morale 3
Seafaring 2
Speed 2

Crew: 1 Musician (Morale), 2 Knights (Combat), 1 Seer (Seafaring), 1 Fairy (Speed)
Captain: +1 Morale, +1 Combat

This is one type of warship, with decent morale but low speed and seafaring.

Raiding Ship (Built for Speed)
Combat 3
Morale 2
Seafaring 2
Speed 5

Crew: 2 Fremennik (Combat), 3 Engineers (Speed)
Captain: +1 Morale, +1 Seafaring

This ship is fairly fast, and it can hold up in a fight, but good luck keeping the crew motivated for more than 2 weeks.

The Farseer (Built for Seafaring)
Combat 3
Morale 1
Seafaring 7
Speed 1

Crew: 1 Sea Troll (Seafaring), 1 Barbarian (Combat) ,3 Seers (Seafaring)
Captain: +1 Seafaring, +1 Combat

This ship is meant to be difficult to sink. It would function well as a defensive ship, which would never have to move far from the claim it is protecting.

The Floating Block (Built for Morale)
Combat 3
Morale 5
Seafaring 1
Speed 3

Crew: 1 Sellsword (Combat), 2 Guild Mages (Speed), 1 Holy Crusader (Combat), 1 Monk (Morale)
Captain: +2 Morale

This type of ship can hold a blockade for 5 weeks, and it has decent combat and speed.

Several weeks after the capital of the empire was moved to Menaphos, the newly throned Pharaoh paced back and forth on the marble gilded floors of the pyramid. The citizens of Menaphos were wary of the empire because of what happened when Ridley took the city. Though Ridley was expelled from Menaphos, the citizen's were still fearful that such an event will happen once more. Many were still recovering from the corruption that was unleashed and thankfully there were no fatalities. Dayan had to find favor within the people to earn their trust. The city was massively damaged and the costs of repairing were very high. The empire is in no position to put the resources to rebuild and taxing the people further would only serve to harm an already plummeting popularity among the people.
The Vizier of the Empire, Rizenel, entered the throne room with news.

"Don't expect me to call you your highness or any of the pompous thingymawut, we have news that there is a large deposit of ore to the north of the city. It is my recommendation that we take hold of the area. No official government or affiliated with one and only traders reside there. We can simply share some of the profit or pay them off with a large sum" She will continue to tinker with some flasks. "I want this pet already, dammit!"

Dayan would raise an eyebrow but then continued on.
"Very well, send a few menaphite guards to protect the area from bandits and other threats. And ensure shipments from the quarry and the city is secure." Dayan ordered the interation be recorded for the archives.

"Okie pokie!" Rizenel would simply leave the throne room still playing with vials and herbs
