Just Another Patrol...

Following his daily routine as an elite guard of Menaphos, Amon patrolled the corridors of the Merchant District with a vigilant eye. The sky overhead was grey with indecision, as the sun tried to make an appearance every now and then, but was obscured most of the time by a dense wall of clouds. The wind whipped through the district, blowing all manner of sand and debris around. Some of the stall merchants had difficulty holding on to their wares; the silk merchant could even be seen chasing after a lovely garment that was blown away in the wind.

“It looks like this weather will be commonplace,” Amon said, to no one in particular. It was true. A few days ago, there was a large sandstorm that threatened the area. It dispersed one night, thanks to the aid of the Pharaoh. Though, the manner of the dispersion is still quite a mystery to me, Amon thought. After that night, the whirling winds still lingered, as if some dark magic was still clinging to the area.

“Ahhhh!!!! HELP!!” Suddenly, the scream of a young man pierced the air. There was no time to think. Amon sprung into action. In his main hand, he drew his sword. He ran toward the direction of the scream, sprinting as large crowds of merchants and commoners made way for the dashing guard.

Amon reached the source of the screaming – a small house in the north-eastern section of the Merchant District. Amon kicked down the door to the house, and it fell to the ground with a satisfying thud . There, a woman stood with a dagger in her hands, a maniacal grin, and a crazed gleam in her eyes. The young man cowered in fear in the corner of the house. Amon could make out a dead body in the opposite corner of the room.

There was no more time to observe. Amon barreled into the house, tackling the woman at full speed. He shoved her against the wall in an attempt to restrain her. The woman let out a demonic scream, as horns appeared to come out of her head. Her anger powered her strength, and she temporarily pushed Amon back long enough to slash at him with her dagger. Caught unaware, Amon was only saved by his armor.

In a split second, Amon drew his shield, and deflected the demonic woman’s next barrage of attacks. He waited for an opening, and then struck with his sword, disabling one of the woman’s arms. In his horror, the woman grew two more appendages in place of the lost one.

“Call for help!” Amon cried out to the man cowering in the corner.

“But, you’ll kill Mom – “

“She’s not your mother! She’s not human!” Amon yelled, while deflecting multiple blows with his shield. “Now if you don’t want to die, then GO!”

The young man overcame his fear and ran from the house. Within moments, more guards came into the room and surrounded the woman. They fully restrained her, and Amon readied for the final blow.

“Behold the light of Tumeken,” he prayed. A ray of sun fought through the clouds and shone on the house. The light bounced off Amon’s blade as it pierced the heart of the foul abomination that the woman had become.

Amon turned to the guards. “This is bad. We have to tell Lady Itsu—”

A chuckle emerged from the shadows. “As usual, you underestimate me, Amon,” Ridley said knowingly, as she appeared in the room.

Mimring sat in his private sanctum, deep inside Goshima, a letter in his hands. As he read his anger increasingly flaring up until it reached a tipping point, at this moment he crumpled the letter and threw it away with a shout of rage, the paper exploding in a ball of fire halfway across the room. Standing up from his chair, casting spells at harmless furniture in a futile attempt to calm down, he headed to his armory and, grabbing his armor and weapons, summoned an undead servant.

"Send a letter to Dayan now, tell him I need to go and kill an idiot and I won't be back before a few months. If he sends anyone to take over Goshima in the meantime make sure he never feel welcome and have him leave, just don't kill him."

"May I ask, master, what seems to be the problem?" The skeleton enquired politely before being blasted into nothingness by the necromancer who simply summoned another minion and repeated his order, the skeleton leaving with a bow as fast as possible.

Grabbing his bag of runes, Mimring took a last glance at his devastated office.
"I want everything to be cleaned up when I come back!"
With a spark of magic, the old sorcerer teleported away, to a destination only known to himself.

Suspicions

One morning, three Aegis Order agents, clad in black hooded tunics, appeared before the door of the Al Kharid chapter house. One of them knocked; Brother Rowan heard it and opened the door for them.

"I suppose that you three are the special agents sent by the Grandmaster to investigate?" Brother Rowan said, knowing that he requested agents to deal with the growing threat. Brother Fredeus also noted their coming.

"Yes, Grand Commander. Ah, it's the Head Inquisitor Butcher!" The three saluted at their master.

"At ease, my men." Fred then took a roll of the crushed dwarf weed and started making a puff. "Well, we had received reports from around here regarding demonic threats. From what I noticed, this is not a simple kind of demonic invasion, as it involved some sort of... pact between some sort of agent and the victim. All we know is that the victim serves as the vessel of that demon; however, we are yet to know who actually set them up. Last time, as reported by Pydomens from the Uzer front, one of our Order's wizards fell victim to the dastardly plan... If you can get information regarding the man, send us a report. However, do not engage against the agent at all costs. Understood?"

"Aye, Master Butcher. So, where are we to be sent?"

"I want you three to meet up with Brother Pydomens. He is currently stationed near Uzer, and he can provide you information regarding the matter. Be safe, the three of you."

"The Aegis endures, Master." The three agents began departing from the chapter house. Meanwhile, Brother Rowan decided to pay a visit to the Abbey.

"And where are you going, fellow brother? Surely you'll not make out with them, huh?" Fred said jokingly.

"Of course, I will not. I have to prepare the cellar for the Knighting ceremony. One of our Initiates is set to be knighted tomorrow, Brother. Might as well come if I were you."

"Sure thing."

The two Knight-Brothers then left the house.

Arise, Knight-Brother of the Aegis Order

It is a custom for the Aegis of Saradomin that before one becomes a Knight-Brother (or a Dame-Sister for females), one must partake in a solemn ceremony, usually held in a Saradominist church or temple, though the Grand Saradominist Temple in Crandor and the Abbey of St. Elspeth Citharede are the usual venues for the investiture of the Knight-Brotherhood nowadays.

On a sunlight-laden morning, Brother Hull Northshire, then a candidate for the Knight-Brotherhood, was to be incorporated into the body of Knight-Brothers of the Order. First, he wore light-blue robes with a hood and the holy symbol. He was then escorted by four Knight-Brothers clad in blue and yellow Templar armour with the cloak of the Order, all of them are of the highest veterancy within the Order. The men escorted the candidate to today's venue, the cellar in the Abbey in Al Kharid.

When the candidate arrived, the Knights then left their guard and joined the others as witnesses. Standing in front was the Grand Commander, wearing his usual ceremonial warpriest armour and wielding his shortsword and book. He was accompanied by Abbess Benita and a priest of the Church of Saradomin to act as third-party witnesses. The rest of the Knight-Brothers were seated behind the candidate, acting as direct witnesses.

The ceremony began. Prayers and readings were read; then, the rites were recited with the hands over the candidate.

In the name of Saradomin, God of Order and Wisdom, and of the Holy Order of Fellow-Soldiers of the Aegis of Saradomin, I thereby dub you, Hull Northshire, Knight-Brother of the Aegis.

Two acolytes of the Order presented the candidate with his own armour and a cloak. He was also presented with his own shortsword and book as symbols of a Knight-Brother's knightly and priestly vows. Then, the last rites of the ceremony were recited.

Arise, Knight-Brother/s of the Order.

That night after that momentous day, Brother Rowan went back to the chapter house in Al Kharid. He then decided to retire for the night.

He began dreaming of the young bar maiden back in his White Knight days. Her image remained the same pretty figure and face he met before. Later on, he saw flowing blood from her head. Her image began to distort, turning her into a demon.

Before Rowan woke up from the nightmare, the image told him, "Save me from the torment! Save me!"

He woke up in the middle of the night, disturbed by the nightmarish dream he had. Then, he immediately went to the altar and began praying for help.

To Brother Rowanius of the Aegis of Saradomin.

I write to you with the utmost urgency. I do hope that this does not arrive at you at a bad time, but I have received word of something that I believe is under your place of expertise.
It has been reported that one of the Elite Menaphite guards of the city encountered a woman who turned into a demon of sorts.

I must say, this is something I have never heard of before. This land is known for dark rituals that wake the dead within tombs of old and such, but never something like this before. From the woman’s head, horns appeared, her strength unnatural, many in the home slaughtered by the beast.

Please, I humbly request your assistance in this matter. The Elite Guard Amon used the light of Tumeken to strike the thing down, but we fear of more cases and not many possess such skill to summon the light of Tumeken to their weapons.

I understand there are differences in which deity’s our people follow, but one thing is certain. Such darkness cannot manifest.

I do hope you write back in due time,

To Pharaoh Dayan Itsu, Emperor of the Wushanko Empire

I have received your letter, and from what you wrote, it seemed that the case with one of your citizens matched with the four prior cases we had received not so long ago. I believe that if such cases increase, it will be alarming for all kingdoms.

Never to worry, Your Grace. The Grandmaster of the Order already sent me three of the best observers of the Order to investigate with the matter. Should they wish to enter your grand city, I implore that you do not deny them, provided that they show to your guards the seal of the Order. The case with one of your citizens may be of help to find the root cause of the growing threat.

Based on one of the letters I had received, I do wonder if the possessions involve... some sort of covenant between the victim and some sort of... agent. I remember that one of our own uttered a name that eludes me. (The agents are yet to get information regarding that matter.) Anyway, I will write to you regarding the progress with the investigation.

Until we know the root cause, I suggest that your citizens make no pact... with shady strangers. That's what I can do to help your Empire, Your Grace.

May the light illuminate the path.
