I've never cried about hoods, they simply annoy me since they have no purpose in kabde.
I don't "measure" floortimes (what measuring could possibly occur...?) either. Saying them aloud in fc shouldn't make people feel that if they can't key the same, why key at all?
And really, 95% of our fc NEVER checks or even reads the discussion thread, so very few know about the hood thing. Also, hoods are irrelevant to wanting to key.
I'm talking about people who flat out refuse to key. Some reasons I've gotten are because "I suck at keying" and "my team will get mad if i key cause i suck."
Okay.
1) The only way to improve at something is to practice.
2) If you're the only one willing to key in your team, chances are they can't key any better than you can, so they won't get mad.
I've been seeing it happen many times in the fc.
"any floors forming?"
"no, but you should form one"
*no reply*
???
You'll never improve at keying unless you actually key. The same goes for, um, everything.
Also, I've had some people message me about attaining a keyer rank. They said it's really hard to get a general for a floor. Generals, do moar floors... or let current keyer ranks evaluate potential keyer ranks. The latter would be better for both of us.

It's very intimidating to key after being on floors with very fast keyers or people who expect fast floors out of the keyer. I know this because I was in that situation, and that was back when 45 minutes was considered normal. There's nothing wrong with fast keyers or fast teams, but it can be intimidating to others who want to try out keying. We also have the few people who put too much weight on the speed of the keyer and that doesn't help.
I agree with buff that a good way to start keying is to do it when no one else wants to. This is how I started keying. Tell your team that you're not an experienced keyer but are willing to give it a try. They will be happy to let you practice. And since there are no pro keyers on your floor the pressure is off. Just have fun and don't worry about the time. Work on how you can be more efficient as a keyer and the time will come with that. Also, it's good to note that usually teams that don't have a keyer in the first place aren't the fastest ones so even if you key very well don't expect super fast times.
As for keyer applicants, I'm going to disagree with you buff. Right now there are only 5 people who have applied but not been given keyer rank. Many of those people I have gone with and did not think they were up to the standard of keyer rank. For me, it's not a matter of doing one floor with someone and marking them off as approved. I like to do at least a few floors with them and see how they interact with others in the fc. Do they make good role models? Will they be good judges of new people? And do they key regularly or do they just want the silver star as some trophy? I'm usually the last person to give approval on keyers (yes, I'm harsh), and I go out of my way to be able to do floors with people who ask me to. For example, I've woken up at 5 am several days in a row to do floors with Lost At Home. So if anyone is just waiting on a general to happen to join their floor, speak up to us. We will make it happen.

Have to agree with this. Sure, while some of us aren't necessarily as great or as experienced as others and can't pull off a record setting floor, the only way to get better is to do it more often. What we do with KABDE's isn't W67 where people will RQ at a floor over 20 minutes. We're here because we want to have fun, so while a floor may take a little longer depending on various things, we don't let it get in the way.
I remember a floor I did a few weeks ago (right when KABDE4Fun started up), in which right before the floor started, Buff said something along the lines of "Apple I'm lazy, you're keying" and sort of threw me under the bus. While the group itself wasn't as experienced as a Dg4fun group as we had people of lower level in terms of combat and skills, we did the best we could, got +12 bonus (some stupid pot door, with a pretty bad map layout) and managed to complete the floor in 43 mins. No one was mad at anyone, and we had a good time. Would the floor have gone faster had Buff keyed it instead of me? Sure, maybe by a few minutes since he's done it about 5 million more times than me, but it wasn't anything important.
Still am not a regular keyer, but with the type of floors we do its not that important. After all we're dging because we want to have fun, right? ;)
