••
Decay

The solution presented by Cero was not so. War, seen as what would have been the saviour and cure to Rome's ailments proved only to further drag it down. Inactivity emerged and wars no longer occurred. The emperor had been rarely seen and the senate fell into idleness. It was not until Cero resigned that Rome would, again, begin to ascend.

Rome had become nothing more than the shadow of its previous self months before. However, Cero's regent - Poop - rose to power, and slowly began knitting together the loose threads. With the senate again emerging as a politically active force, with the appointment of a politically involved regent in the returning Pax Bellum, and the beginning of a process to restore Rome ultimately - the success of such a regime was to be ensured.

••
May Reaction

The Poop regime began with a rapid and promising start, however gradually declined. Poop became occupied with affairs outside Rome, and so his interest and determination wavered. He resigned in mid May, Redsparten0 succeeding to power.

Red, who had not been politically involved in Rome since 2008 was prepared to do whatever necessary to restore Rome. The senate, which had become nearly non-existent following the end of the previous regime, was no longer a matter of rebuilding but for the first time a focus of abolition. A strong campaign, led by Pax, established a strong and favorable attitude toward removing the Senate. In addition, the recently disgraced Seer left it a bad connotation.

Should power be stripped away from the senate and restored to the emperor it would be the most reactionary reform in Rome since 2009. Along with this, establishing within Rome a dynarchy - rule of two emperors - became a matter of interest. Multiple emperors had not ruled simultaneously since the fall of the last Tetrarchy in 2010. Rome was again under the leadership of conservative veterans.

Resurgam

June, 2012. Rome was now a Dynarchy under Emperors Pax Bellum and Redsparten0. Redsparten was untested and fresh, having laid his glory days down several years before. Pax, his reputation had gradually shifted from the young and noble upstart in 2007 to one who thrived off chaos and eliminating anyone in a struggle for power, and an ego that grew over the years as a product of victory.

Rome, decaying and undisciplined.

Red and Pax had eliminated the power of the senate. They began a massive overhaul of Rome. The crumbling bricks were to be removed, and strong ones added. A new foundation. Resurgam, a new era, began.

It had seen much success, and established a summer full of stability. The Magistrates of Rome became the new backbone, replacing the duties of the old, power hoarding Senates. Rome's numbers grew, it's citadel expanded by major strides, and it's community reputation being restored step by step. Organization was present in Rome, but Red and Pax maintained a looseness about things. Many reforms were in progress, mostly within the social order of Rome, along with activity reforms.

The Denarius System was a major reform being designed by Pax, but would never fully be integrated or finished in his regime with Red. It was his ultimate goal for creating a structure-based community in TRE - the embodiment of what he always wanted Rome to become. The project was met by controversy by some and his designs were demolished by someone unknown. Having invested weeks and multiple trials, the loss of his work completely deflated Pax. His Denarius System would not be realized until November of 2016 - nearly five years later.

In mid-August Pax resigned in a hurry, leaving all the responsibilities to the less than active Redsparten0. This did not sit well with the higher ranked who were active at the time. Wolf Brink, the newly appointed Quaestor, called a meeting between Machque V, Proto, and himself to discuss the future of Rome.

At the meeting they resolved to discuss, with Redsparten, the future of Rome. Redsparten maintained his throne for one week until it was given to Wolf Brink. Wolf Brink was selected to head TRE with Machque V, with Proto and Redsparten as the Regency.

••
Negligence

Wolf took over Rome in urgency. Pax Bellum had resigned but was, at the time, one of two existing emperors. Red was still present, but with Pax's project lost his resignation was likely due to a loss of zeal. Red remained as Emperor, and a strong administration of magistrates remained. Nevertheless, the Quaestor Wolf was given power.

It was Wolf's first time leading Rome, and perhaps it was too soon. He neglected Rome for an entire month, before returning his gaze upon the activities of TRE - that gaze mostly being set on events. His intentions were well, his efficiency not so much.

Under pressure from multiple people, Wolf relinquished his power and gave it to Dobee - a long time veteran who had never tasted power before. Dobee became Emperor the week prior to Christmas, and quickly began work on the rebuilding of infrastructure. Rome was quickly revived with life as a result of recruitment. With Rome's numbers going up, key veteran appearances were also made by Racecar20219 and Thundar12 (both returning to Rome after long absences). Race had ruled Rome in 2007 under the Triumvirate.

On February 10th of 2013, Dobee resigned and handed over power to Thundar12. Rome found itself in a position of power, power uncontained by competent leadership. Rome's status quo under Dobee would gradually deteriorate under Thundar, who found himself taking over Rome at a time of inconvenience. Perhaps it was poor judgment to hand power over someone so recently returned from a long absence.

A plot was underfoot by Thundar's senior regent and a formerly disgraced and banned member of Rome. He had been banned under the Dobee regime, and held a strong grudge. Only days after Thundar's succession to Dobee, the regent granted the disgraced former member all the powers of a junior regent, resulting in a temporary seizure of power during Thundar's period of unavailability. While Roman leaders awaited Thundar's return to restore order, Rome was sabotaged and temporarily crippled by the conspirators. The plot, was essentially, concentrated on revenge against Dobee - who briefly found himself exiled. Dobee was no longer a leader in Rome, nor was he active. The plot that was directed at one individual barely effected that one individual. Only their actions will be remembered, not the names.

Thundar persevered for a few more days before abdicating on February 22. The new senior and now only acting regent, Romulus, was named Emperor.

Romulus had previously been the King of the Spartan Empire, an old ally of Rome's whose relationship toward TRE turned bitter under the Armanian regime. Sparta itself eventually collapsed. But Romulus was also a Roman prior to the rise of TSE. Despite the inactivity that arose, Romulus swept out old inactive members and Offices to give new ones a chance. Shortly after Pax Bellum would resign as Regent - feeling his advice was ignored when Romulus allowed the recently banned traitor to return. He was replaced by long-time veteran CJ Cat L0v3r.

Romulus XX eventually decided to take a break and resigned as Emperor. He was replaced by CJ Cat L0v3r. New and upcoming member GravitatorEX was named as Regent.

••
An Era of Rebuilding

After leading for almost a full year, CJ's reign was regarded as a successful one. He kept Rome standing and healthy, but after awhile Rome's progress slowed to a stalemate. The Magistrates in the clan became inactive and essentially not in use as the structure of Rome eventually became invisible. Ever since the magistrate offices became the backbone of Rome in 2012 their lack of involvement became dangerous.

Wanting to ensure a bright future of prosperity for Rome, Proto took power in order to begin the era known as Romani Dedicationis "The rebuilding of Rome will not be finished overnight. It will take time, but hopefully it can propel Rome to a period of long-lasting success." Proto had a difficult task at hand, focusing on trimming the dead weight in the clan and updating the many outdated components.

In early April 2014, CJ Cat L0v3r once again took power. Rome maintained a status quo for well over a year. In early October, 2015, a minor exodus of members occurred. Some, including Areus and Romulus, left to form a clan of their own. TSE, a clan now long dead, had found a large portion of their former members residing in Rome with Areus and Romulus. They left to establish Exiled Order.

2015 saw the rise of an administration highly dependent upon a newer generation. These new administrators under Cj included long time regent Rrapid (veteran), as well as the junior regent who would replace him, Phon. Wisegirl19 would become junior regent. In addition Auzy, Cammandrkreen, and Avoricofgol rounded out an administration that had very little turnover and remained mostly hands-off. The demeanor of TRE remained very relaxed.

The Way Forward

On October 2, 2016 CJ Cat L0v3r took drastic steps when unable to find a successor. Having led TRE for two solid, and fairly consistent years, he looked to step down and find a proper replacement. Only, with many of Rome's leaders having faded away none existed to carry Rome forward. Having waited a few weeks, and still unable to find a successor, CJ acted impulsively rather than reasonably. He moved to merge TRE, an act clearly against TRE policy and a major Imperial transgression, into a larger and perhaps more relevant clan at the time - RS Addicts. His goal was to keep TRE members together during a large-scale transition. If TRE had to die, then at least it's members would still be together elsewhere.

CJ, along with approximately 14 others, made the move and left the remnants of TRE behind for dead despite his good intentions. The remnants, however, were those who refused to move and those who chose to keep Rome alive. The large-scale transition failed, and rather than having the members of TRE in one place they were instead split.

Remaining in Rome were 96 members, a handful of which remained active and the majority of veterans only kept as a way of paying homage to their past. Leadership was, briefly, passed onto Proto. But after having discussed TRE's steps to recovery, Auzy was named Emperor, with Pax Bellum and Proto choosing to join the administration as Regents - forming an unofficial Triumvirate. A major recovery was coming, and the only thing certain was that the next two years would look different than the previous two.

The way forward was clear: Initiate damage control, stop the bleeding, recoup TRE's losses, and choose Rome's image for the future. But at all costs remain alive.

Auzy started by revamping TRE's attitude toward activity and events. A new program designed around incentives for active members - the backbone of which was to be the weekly raffle.

••
The Division

With a strong initial two weeks into the Emperor Auzy reconstruction period, the following weeks began to stagnate - a sign that recovery would not be easily gained. Facing a tremendously difficult task, and one that he felt ill-equipped to tackle, Auzy resigned and withdrew from Rome.

With Auzy's resignation Proto regained power, while Pax remained sole Regent. Coupled with the task of rebuilding what remained of TRE, the death of the Empire of Falador (EoF) on November 6, 2016 further acted as testimony to Rome's mortality. But rather than discourage Proto and Pax it acted as a sobering moment - invoking haste and urgency to ensure TRE did not meet a similar fate.

Weeks following Auzy's resignation, TRE's strength crept back. Years after being discarded, the weekly meeting - once the cornerstone of Roman society - was restored. A member base that at the beginning of the Division included a handful of active members had now increased to a core base of over twenty. This included the notable return of Rule362 from the Caesarian era, as well as Mattb6123.

Rome's lack of structure had ailed it for years, leaving a void of any real order or management. Proto and Pax once again established an enhanced version of the Denarius system, along with a central bank that would act as a source for event rewards and incentive. Rome's bank brought in 40m the week of it's installation - with a peregrini, Odelious, as the first donor.

The months before indicated collapse. The months ahead indicated rebirth.

A New Age

The rebirth of Rome started slow, a trickle down a rock. But with sturdy and resolved leadership, the trickle quickly became a flood - and progress that once felt miraculous following The Division quickly became an expectation and, in time, a habit.

The formation of an effective administration required constant attention. The experience of Proto and Pax was soon coupled by the return of Dobee and Fere, veterans and devoted Romans with a shared interest - the prospect of more than rebuilding Rome but building a new one that never existed.

In October TRE's Citadel had collapsed due to The Division, spiraling from Tier 5 to Tier 2. Upon Fere's return he was immediately appointed Quaestor Superior and charged with it's rebuilding, aided by Quaestor Inferior Mattb6123.

Rome's commitment to it's Citadel and investments in recruiting saw large returns of success. By instituting raffles and funded by TRE revenue, Rome hit the 200 member milestone by the end of February and regained Tier 4 at a similar time.

Proto, Pax, and the rest of the administration had led a clan on the verge of collapse into a prospering entity once more that saw a large influx of members, the re-implementation of clan meetings, a functional denarius-based ranking system and senate, along with perhaps most importantly, the grooming a new generation of Romans that would be prepared to get involved in clan affairs and ensure the events of The Division would not be likely to occur again.

The path had been laid, as Rome's active member base more than tripled in a span of four months. Not only had Rome survived yet another obstacle, it managed to come out stronger and adapt to a changing Clan landscape, using a blend of traditional Roman concepts, complemented by newer touches to ensure member activity and interests were on the rise.

A New Age Continued

By August of 2017 TRE was in the midst of a great revival, anchored around the investment put into the Senate many months prior. When the Senate was re-established in the winter of 2017 it had been gone for nearly five years - and even now it's capacity to govern was in question. But with Mos back in Rome, both Proto and Pax felt that the moment had arrived for the Senate to reach prominence again.

At the time Rome was still relying on individual magistrates to conduct daily business - the practice instituted in 2012. Unsupervised and disconnected remained the theme. During the inter Meranek had been appointed Aedile and, despite all his promise, was removed and immediately replaced with Nosfuratoo - someone of equal and unproven promise.

Mos was appointed Princeps Senatus, hearkening back memories of old, and a Senate was carefully established around him. Nosfuratoo was named Aedile Superior - but was shortly after dismissed. As Mos' presence began to wane by the Spring, the regime was forced to replace him - a worry, as the Senate was recreated with the expectation that Mos would be at it's helm. SidInsane would be appointed to replace Mos, a rising Patrician and new generation product who had become increasingly popular with his peers.

Sid managed a Senate that increasingly handled Rome's day to day affairs in a very hands on manner that even Mos would have been hard pressed to do. This Senate also included several other new generation products who were producing long-serving Senate careers. Aediles Laina, Elijvh, and FadedDankBro - in addition to Tribunes SuaveyMojo and Rrapid, and Quaestors Fere, Mr Dalton, and Angemima - made up the backbone of a Senate growing with both experience and importance.

A New Age Continued

But as August brought continued prosperity and the continuation of a long-standing Pax Romana , it also presented TRE's status quo with a challenge. In-fighting between Senators Rrapid, Angemima, and Sid resulted in a very striking blow to the Senate. Sid, Ange, and soon after Elijvh each left both the Senate and Rome - with little room left for reconciliation.

The Loss of three key and tenured Senators threatened to alter Rome's stability, and the positive reputations each had maintained created more cause for concern. In response Proto and Pax appointed SuaveyMojo as Princeps Senatus - a rising star himself who's popularity rivaled Sid's at the time. The alternative would have been the appointment of Rrapid, but despite his experience his place in the middle of the recent crises could have provoked further unrest.

Suavey quickly rallied the remaining Senate around him and continued the Senate's slow rise to renewed prominence.
