So,

IF you were the owner of a dead clan and you still wanted to continue its legacy, would you Refound or Rebuild?

While this question doesn't exactly concern me, I can't help but wonder other people's thoughts about Clan Refounding vs. Clan Rebuilding.

As far as I have found, nobody likes the idea of joining clans that are rebuilding, it's like an unspoken paranoia: "If you're rebuilding, something must have gone wrong, it will happen again, you are doomed to failure." Even though every clan can have something go terribly wrong or make a mistake, regardless of age or stature, any potential problems seemed doubled or tripled I peoples minds when it comes to rebuilding old clans.

This isn't helped from the fact that technically you are not allowed to use the "Looking for Founders" forum to find new Clan Leaders to help rebuild the clan with you, not to say of course that some are granted mercy and get away with it, and others find creative loopholes to still use the forum.

Then we have new clans, not without their troubles certainly, however there's so much energy and excitement, so much encouragement, and that thrill of a new voyage and fresh start, that the problems seem totally insignificant and nobody cares....That's just not the same for rebuilding clans.

................But this is only what I've found to be the case.

In conclusion: Has anyone here rebuilt clans to great success? If so, why didn't you just Refound? And have you had to deal with any of the roadblocks I've mentioned? If not, you can also just say what you would do in the same scenario and why.

There was a girl in the LFC forums that I tried recruiting. She stayed with us a few days, and left afterward. When I asked what type of clan she was looking for, she said she was more interested in a newer clan with fewer members, so that she could help shape its direction.

Even though I had told her that we don't have many people active online, we didn't have a "fresh slate" that we were excited to fill in, which is why despite being the size she was looking for, we didn't possess the type of energy and potential she wanted to harness. And it's easier to fill in the gaps than it is to overwrite what's already in place.

If I were you, I would refound a clan. I'm not sure how clan names get cleared up, but it's also pretty meaningful as any type of founder when you get to decide on a name together, so that would be another incentive when looking for founders. Maybe you'll get to choose a name that represents or signifies something meaningful to you guys, maybe you choose one that sounds cool and inspires a certain type of feeling.

I dont think people who are looking to join really care if its rebuilding or not, theyll view it as the same as any other clan based on tier, what it offers etc

We've been rebuilding a lot last years. Many of our members left when EoC came out, and with many warring clans closing it was hard to get wars and competition so more members became inactive. It's not true that if a clan has to rebuild, something went wrong in the clan. We were just in a part of the game that has received the shit end of the stick. It's hard to say we've rebuild into a success, as we can't reach the heights we were at many years ago when warring was thriving. But it's still far better than refounding, I'd see no reason to do that.

We've started fresh twice over the last seven years or so. In the past, there's always been members who were eager to step in and help. Recently my personal experience has been that most of the veteran players I've been in clan with for years have much less time to devote to rs or clan. And, if anything is to get done, it has fallen upon my shoulders. And I'm totally burned out.

We currently have about twelve or so who play each week. Often, I'm in chat alone when playing. Our tier 7 citadel dilapidated a couple of weeks ago and about five people actually care. At this point, I have no energy left to devote to rebuilding the clan or maintaining citadel. I've been playing another MMO instead of RS.

If clans ever get the attention we've been asking for, it will probably be too little, too late for our clan. Sidenote: The other game I'm playing now actually cares about their guilds. It's quite refreshing.

It doesn't really matter. What's important is that you keep an open mind to suggestions from new members as well. I've rebuild my clan a few months ago and I run it the same as before; everything is up for discussion - nothing is set in stone.

"If you're rebuilding, something must have gone wrong, it will happen again, you are doomed to failure."

That's nonsense, you learn from your mistakes and move on. It all depends on how you start it back up, you speak of 'energy, excitement and encouragement' which, if correctly orchestrated can easily be accomplished through rebuilding.

You, as a leader set the pace. Feed the clan the right mindset and dreams come true ^.^

Could you give me the acronym or abbreviation to what you are playing?

Also, just as a reminder, I did say this case does not specifically apply to me. Though to be fair, this is a question I would have to consider if I ever begin clan running again.

Thus far the weather isn't looking to conducive towards that.

Keep posting everyone. :)

Hello, i am owner of living souls of rs clan. I re founded the clan when my friend asked me to join and asked me to became new owner, back in january 2016, after ther previous owner / admin + ranks left the clan.

My clan is open for ideas, to discuss, no requirements etc.

My clan is now tier 4 citadel 2 avatars, and in a month hopefully tier 5 citadel.

Previous clan had 1 avatar, tier 3 citadel, but after owner left, my friend became owner, asked me to join, the citadel was back down to 1, so once got to tier 3 citadel, or whatever, then we had the benifit of using the avatar right away.

So i say, it depends on the people who are in the clan who are dedicated to keep it going. and as long as you have loyal people then your clan will succeed over time.

That is my story. Cheers :)

@ Ranny.

I'll add you the next time I log in. Feel free to pm me if you want to know details about the other game.

Back to your original topic... Re-building or re-founding can both work well if you have other energetic, enthusiastic, helpful clan mates who are willing to help. Doing it alone will likely burn you out eventually.

That decision would depend on why the Clan died in the first place. If you are able to make changes on your Clan, I'd rebuild. If you are not able to make changes, I'd refound. But as a Clan Owner or Deputy Owner, you typically have the ability to make changes on your own clan.

When people think of old clans they wonder if given Clans are still active and current, if joining would give them opportunity to learn new things and grow within the ranks.

My Clan is I who leads it. I am responsible for every good and bad thing that happens on my Clan. If the Clan is doing great, I'll be praised as a great Clan Leader; if it's not, I'll be blamed for its problems. Humbled by those who follow me I rephrase, My Clan is our Members who I care for.

My Clan is over 10 years old. We've been to hell and back experiencing a multiple ups and downs over the years. And I feel that "what didn't kill us, only made us stronger." Although I personally prefer the Spanish version of the quote, "Lo que mata no engorda" which literally translates to "What kills you doesn't make you fat." I like to think of us like a Wily Cat. We've become lazy and fat at times, but we always get back in the game and refresh ourselves back into being wily. Such is life with its ups and downs. It doesn't matter how many times you fall; all that matters is that you pick yourself up.
