Someone on my ignore list (friends list ignore, not clan ban list )was in clan chat being abusive.

I was unable to see that they were being abusive in clan chat.
I then removed them from my ignore list to see what they said & I was still unable.

Yes they were kicked by someone else & I was told what was said but that isn't the issue.

The issue is that someone on my ignore list could be abusive in clan chat without my knowledge.

Would a Jagex Moderator please address this.

A few ideas that I would suggest in preventing a similar incident in the future:

1. (if you don't have this already) Turn on the broadcast to show when a guest enters the CC

- If necessary, you can make a KOS list somewhere (not on public forums) for players who are not banned, but on personal ignore lists, or for other various reasons

2. Give more ranks the ability to kick guests from the CC

- This permission can be given to all ranks (as far as I'm aware), so extending this permission to more of your members could result in problematical guests being dealt with more swiftly

3. Keep your ignore list limited

- If you "really" need to have someone on your ignore list, by all means leave them there. But, if you are able to withstand them without needing the ignore list, I would recommend having as few people ignored as possible in order to see situations like this in full. This is completely my opinion though as I do not have many ignores for this reason.

4. Set your online status to friends if this person is an issue to you in private messages

- This would allow you to be relieved of harassing PMs and free up that space on your ignore list. I find ignoring most people redundant as they can still find what world I'm on, even if I have them ignored and my online status is on.

5. Lock your CC to clan members only

- I wouldn't recommend doing this unless the only ones who guest in your CC are those who wish to cause disruptions, but it's still an option if necessary.

I hope that your clan is able to combat these issues should they be a recurring problem.

My clan had a "no guests" policy for nearly 2 years before we finally agreed to reopen it, though we do enforce strict rules on guests in order to prevent situations like these. And I strongly feel that we made the right decision in reopening it last year. We get the occasional troll here and there, but overall it's much better.

A few things I would suggest:

1) Add all players from your ignore list to the clan ban list, I would assume they're on your ignore list for good reason.

2) Turn broadcast settings on, this will tell you when someone has entered the chat so you can deal with it instantly.

3) Turn guesting off if you're still having trouble with people trolling your clan chat.

You appear to be complaining that the Ignore function works as intended.

To be clear - are you asking that it be deprecated/nerfed because of occasional convenience to a very small number of people (clan admins)?

This is the very reason why my ignore list is limited only to spam bots and why we kindly ask all admins to keep their ignore lists as short as possible too.
tbh I would like the ability to see what they wrote before one un-ignores them, but I realize it might be quite difficult to do.

Seems that Sicariu already listed some good suggestions. Keep in mind that any admin+ rank can turn guests off too in case u don't want them to give the power to kick guests. Ceecs - leader of Ceecs Clan

I don't see what could be done here by Jagex as a solution for you other than simply removing the ignore effect inside channels like CC/FC, which obviously completely defeats the purpose of ignoring. It's an ignore (in its most literal sense) list (different than a 'block' list) and by adding someone to it you have made the choice of not seeing anything they say, no matter the case - you can't be selective in the cases, or in hindsight.

The only thing you can do is add the ignored people to the clan ban list (even if it's personal, it's a justified clan ban because you don't want them in your chat potentially causing problems, as has been done). If they are too bothersome that they justify going on your ignore list, then they justify going on the ban list, unless they're not bothersome at all.

Personally I don't like adding anyone to my ignore list. I can't stand not seeing it clean, and if someone has bothered me at some point I don't like to be reminded of that every time I log in and look at their name on my ignore list. Also, I find not being able to see what they say more handicapping & inhibiting than advantageous, which has been proven in your case. Adding them there is like conceding defeat at times, rather than handling it. I neither allow people to drive me into that disadvantage, nor do I give them the acknowledgement, validation and worth as trolls by giving them a place on my ignore list.

I like to let go of grudges and move on, because otherwise it's stressful. At the very most, I choose 'ignore until log out' for some spammers in public after reporting them. It's extremely unlikely that anyone will constantly follow and harass you, but in that rare case you can switch your Private to Friends or ignore them for a few days and remove after. There's no ignore list in real life, and there's nothing that can't be sorted out. It's easy to just 'manually' ignore (i.e. not pay attention to or give any value to anything they say).

Thanks for your ideas Sicariu.
1. It's on
2. Plenty can kick - these aren't the issues as I tried to make clear
3. It is
4. Not concerned with pm's, it stays on so clan can reach me
5. CC will stay open to guests.

Archaeox I don't need your constant whining when people are looking for information.

Thank you to the others for your ideas, you are kind people.

I'm seeking clarification from a J-Mod as to if this is just the way it is for technical reasons.
For whatever reason, a long time ago I was lead to believe people on owners ignore lists couldn't join cc.
I never tested this & it's never come up, so I was surprised when it happened - clearly the person who informed me had the wrong information. That's fine it happens.
It's not a complaint or asking for anything.

I'm addressing the issue of the potential for people to be abusive in CC without seeing it.

If our beloved Matthe says that's the way it has to be, so be it.

I'm not a programmer - for all I know they could add a clause to the ignore *unless in cc or something like that.

If I don't bring it up, they can't hear it, so I'm bringing it up.

Ignore List at your service! ;)

As others have said it is the way the ignore list works and it is working as intended. It does overule ever chat be it friends chat/pm or clan chat. It is the reason my ignore list is empty I don't want to face the very issue you described.

If I do add people to my ignore list (haven't in a super long time) then it is temporary, trolls and the like get bored after a while and stop so no need to keep them there forever.

But I personally would like to see if something could be done :o - granted it won't be a priority as things such as the clan member mute functions have been voted a higher priority.
