I agree that a*lot* of people try to embellish the truth and milk the sympathies of the community, to make Jagex feel like they would look heartless if they didn't help them out in their plight.
But that thread isn't very deliberate in responding to that, if that's what it's responding to, and as such it came off at the least as disrespectfully selfish, at most as propaganda. I had no idea the context of that thread until one of my friends explained how there were a bunch of false claims being made recently on Reddit (and you have to understand how Reddit works in order to understand the significance of false claims becoming popular on Reddit), but I didn't know that, and even with that context, the purpose of that thread isn't very clear.
If that's the case--to placate the fears of folks thinking that the support system is inept and won't help "innocent, genuine players," then he should have said so--Infinity should have said something along the lines of "It may seem like our support system is unsympathetic, but we would like to placate your fears; we are able to maintain our integrity helping those who actually need help by seeing through situations that try to distract our support team from people with genuine account situations. By doing this we are able to allocate our time in maintaining a robust support system that can provide assistance where possible."
