I'm always self-conscious about how active my clan chat is when people looking for a clan is visiting, as you noted discussions/ activity come in waves and I personally hate when someone thinks were not social just because we've been a little quite for a while (can't get some of my members to shut up at other times :P ).

Yea some people cant work out that sometimes its quiet and sometimes its not and then this is the kicker, youll have some people leave cos its too quiet and other people leave cos the chat is too fast, cant win.

like luck of the draw. If you're the first clan people visit and they are somewhat picky, there's almost no chance they'll join. Even if your clan is somewhat identical to the clan they decide to join.

"Why are you posting threads, asking questions and making discussion???"

Thanks for sharing your experiences; I thought that it was just my clan, since we don't have that many active members :P

(My method of recruiting is to help people in-game and ask if they'd be interested in joining my clan, and that method doesn't result in a lot of recruits, but admittedly we need to post more on LFC threads)

And I agree with you all on how people fairly often will dismiss a clan just because they don't guest "at the right time." I think that's a shame, because even people who *aren't* as extreme as Binary in the screenshots I posted (not his actual display name) might never experience Runescape clan culture, just because they were never able to find a clan to actually join.

In such a case, I think that clan discussion threads on the forums are a powerful proxy and slice of what clan conversations have to offer, when those do happen. I'm going to encourage my clannies to post on our discussion thread more often, and to also point guests to check out what we're like on the forums :)

Size isn't everything. I'd much rather have a smaller, more rleaxed and friendly clan, than a larger, drama-filled one.

Helping people in-game is also something I do often (and rank in 3 fc's), it has given me quite a few members. We also have a topic to recruit on dutch RS forums/dutch fansite and our clannies recruit friends of them also :)

Ofcourse is a relaxed and friendly clan also important, but this is also possible in larger clans. ;)
