for trying to do that, by the way, which I've noticed.

But it doesn't achieve much in terms of "having fun" when I see a bunch of posts with just numbers--no exclamation marks or smileys, even, which would make things more friendly--but just numbers.

Well that's why it's an optional feature of the CLF. Those of us who enjoy racing the Jmods are free to do so. Those who are don't enjoy it are free to not do so.
Those are the reasons we enjoy having it. To each their own I suppose.

Quiz thread lol, that'd be cool! Or a thread where you ask the person next to post a question, and they answer it and pose a question of their own, to the poster after them--is that what a quiz thread would be?

I don't judge anyone for posting on the counting thread in whatever style they chose, to be clear--but it does bother me that a thread with just numbers and oftentimes no emotion is so popular.

And besides, whether/how someone posts on a counting thread doesn't tell me much about their personality, since there are a lot of reasons that can explain posting on such a thread in one style or another. Those reasons might also be separate from how someone is in a different environment/setting.
