Honestly I think the prestige thing is a realization by jagex that "They dun goofed" by making so many skills afkable. It used to take so long to get a 99, now people are getting them much faster so the low to mid level content is worthless.
If prestiging goes they way they plan, and every prestige doubles the amount of xp needed to get back to 99, that kind of fixes that issue.

That's just my take on it.

As long as there are no rewards for prestige [other than hiscores] then I don't mind at all since I'll probably never max out once anyway :P

FAQ is up 16-17-252-65178606 (not linked because I apparently suck at doing that) looks like there is one item that you get the moment you reset but nothing else, so you wouldn't need to get anymore xp to get it.

I notice of those of you that have responded that you all have a few 99s .You know they are hard to achieve . I've got comp cape and I think that plays a lot with attitude to high scores . Apart from HS where is the motivation to play ? So I find myself being one of those xp junkies.
Ive decided to aim for high HS in summoning and mining .At present there are 24 people with 200 mil in summoning and 40 in mining . Competition in maintaining rank is intense . Considering the numbers who no longer get xp in these skills where is the need for any change?
Why object when there will be a separate set of high scores ? Mainly because the HS we have now will be considered less important than the prestige included ones . 26 mil without prestige has been gained easier so therefore 26mil (or pres 2 ) is superior .So the new high scores will count for more. If I want to play in HS then , I basically need start again, then again , and again.
Whether you get anything or not Im not bothered . What is getting said in HLF is that Jagex have resisted awarding a cape for 200mil as it encourages unhealthy game play. Prestige offers nothing but infinite gameplay , how healthy is that. 200mil is a end , something to aim for.
I am close to my first 200mil , I haven't logged in today as I usually do , motivation has somewhat gone .First 200 mil will be the easy one (dung) .There is only one other skill I got more than 50mil in .I think once div has settled down I fit in around 3k in high scores.
Why does this sound appealing to you? Only reason I can see is perhaps there is a chance to be above suomi or the greats for a time . You still have quest capes and comp capes to aspire to .If I don't have rank to play for then I lose reason to play . I might as well quit for a couple months , come back , do new content then quit and repeat.
Also this fits in clf as like eoc , lamps from squeal and bonds ( to a smaller degree) it is another change that will lose my clan members .

Just a wee footnote , mining is my favourite skill , highest ranked in it. Just looked at high scores which with the rings and new picks have had considerable movement recently . No movement in 24hours from those around me in high scores.

My two cents on prestige, after giving it some more thought.

I am level 97 in rc and agility, 98 fishing. If I can get 99 in those 3 skills before prestige launches, I can "prestige" them (or is that nuts - I hate these 3 skills) and potentially vault up the high scores ahead of some who have been 99 a long time. So that has some (minor) interest for me, as I do look at high scores and rank from time to time and these skills could be very well positioned.

Having said that, I really don't like the idea of someone who "prestiges" defense and reaches level 50 with 14 million total XP or so being ranked ahead of my 50 million xp in defense. Yet, I understand that giving me credit for prestige 1 for the first 13 million, prestige 2 for the next 26 million, and 10 million xp towards prestige 3 is "not fair" because I didn't have to start over at level 1 to get that extra xp.

In a vacuum, with all players starting at square one under a prestige system, I think players would be generally in favor. However, the concept did not exist on day 1. I am sure the folks at Jagex follow other games and have seen the positive (and negative) impacts on those games of introducing prestige. If it is a good update (and I really hope they learn from others and get this as right as possible) that can't be properly retro'd to day 1, then it should be implemented. There will be, inevitably, unfairness as a result of the transition, but the alternative is not to introduce something that may be of value to the game.

So, I say bring it on, but get it right! As right as it can be, given the inherent issues with any transition. The alternative is no new content as every significant new addition to the game helps some players more than others. And, if they keep the existing high scores, then those who are vehemently opposed to prestige can largely ignore it.

You said those vehemently opposed to prestige can ignore it .
Isnt that precisely what is wrong with it , that the high scores we spent years working on are ignored and barely credited at all ?
Who is asking for this ? Its like resetting everyone .
As I said it is also endless ,,,

They haven't released it yet, so things could change significantly.

But as I understand it, the "old guard" can look at the original high scores and take pride in our conquests there. And the "prestige crowd" can look at a different set of high scores. I can keep climbing the top 2k in defense while others race to get to prestige 2. And I can look at the prestige charts for any skills I choose to jump back and start over.

The other questions I have revolve around all those wonderful stat tracking sites and whether they will track the old scores or new, and how they will handle someone "going up" from level 99 to 1. We run a lot of events using "a popular rs stat tracking site" and I want to be sure it can still support our events properly. So hopefully swordkill is watching as prestige develops.
