Hello :)

I recently had someone bring it to my attention that one of my clan members scammed them. They have proof, which they sent to me, and then one of my officers brought it to my attention that the scammer was also asking to borrow many things from our clan members over the last few days. Some people turned him down, and two members trust traded him items/money for his needs, since he had been in the clan for about a year with no issues prior. I had the scammer return a virtus wand he was borrowing, and I tried to get him to return the 50m he was borrowing from someone else. He said that he would, but when the member singed online, the scammer left the clan, turned his PM off and blocked me. So he scammed a non-clan member for a set of Torva, and scammed a clan member for 50m. Is there a blacklist somewhere to report his name to other clan leaders who might want to watch out for him? I am sure he will be looking for a new clan in 7 days when his probation period is finished, and I don't want anyone else to have to take on the scam risk if possible. Is there anything against the rules of this forum regarding calling him out by name?

Thank you for your time!

There isn't a blacklist, however if you track him and the new clan he gets into you can go into their clan as a guest and warn them, or add their leader and private message them (assuming they have their private set to on).

Also, just so you are aware, you can edit your posts with the little pen icon under the post you want to edit - you don't need to create a second post with the edit.

No, there's no black list to post names on, even if there was an unofficial one I hope nobody here would use it.

Scamming is still very prevalent in RS, I don't know why people seem to trust clan members more than random players in RS. I had the same issue as you early on in my clan and I put a stop to any future trust trades, asking for free items, etc. Even asking outside of the clan chat isn't allowed.

Ah, thank you, I was looking for the edit button above the post.

Why wouldn't you want people to use it? I wouldn't want anyone who scams to be in my clan and wearing our clan name whether they were able to scam clannies or not. I also wouldn't want them to invite their like-minded friends and acquaintances into the clan.

I do not strictly watch trust trading, but I do not condone it either. Begging/Asking is cc is NOT allowed and I put a stop to it and give out warnings when I see it, but the occasional request goes unnoticed, and also people ask in PMs sometimes. Usually trust trading only happens between the closest members, I am not sure why people trusted this guy. I do believe they trusted him due to him being a clan member for over a year, but he has never been super talkative and has always been a little short/rude with replies. He didn't exactly give off a trustworthy vibe in my opinion. If I had found out that he was asking to borrow money and items before they were lent, I could have prevented it.

For the same reason why they don't allow name shaming on the forums, innocent until proven guilty unless I am involved.

If Jagex were to implement such a system where clans can opt in to not allow people caught scamming with Jmod detection methods then I would support that. As for a one where clan leaders can input names, that's just ridiculous.

Thank you for the great intent but as Tok3d has stated, a shared blacklist would be impossible due to many reasons and complications.

You can imagine how clans would abuse it by placing people they have had some drama or personal differences and issues with on it, or because they are simply bitter about them leaving, etc.

Once someone leaves a clan they are free and independent of it, and deserve to be given a clean slate in their new clan without past clan issues haunting them and following them around wherever they go (and it would be petty of their former clan following them around and engaging in such harassment). It's probably up to their new clan if they want to find out a lot about the person's past and dig into it.

As this is a case of a scammer, however, it's completely different especially if you are concerned about them potentially scamming in future clans.

The only thing you could do is check their Adventurer's Log and see which clan they join. If it's on private, you can look them up on RuneClan and find out their clan - this is only possible if their clan has a RuneClan page, though. Once you find out their clan, you can PM the leaders and/or guest in their clan and ask them if they'd willing to talk and let them know about the issue.

Apart from these two options, there are no options to find out what clan someone is in unless you know from someone or happen to come across them in public and their examine isn't on private, etc.

If you aren't able to track him down, it's not really worth stressing over and he'd be best forgotten and the incident used as a learning/positive experience for those involved and the clan. Scams are constantly happening everywhere in RS and unfortunately we can't be everywhere to stop them. He'd hopefully eventually be caught in the future. Avoid trust trading with anyone, even your closest friends, unless it is something you don't mind losing and hence worth the risk.

Hope this helps and good luck. :)

That makes sense, about a blacklist being abused in the wrong hands. I didn't think about that, because I was only considering proven scammers for the ban list. I suppose some people could fake proof just for revenge over a dispute.

In my case, I have solid proof that the guy scammed twice and I do fully intend to let his future clan leader know. They can do what they want with the information, but I would want to know if someone like that came to my clan.

Thank you guys, for your answers and insight. =D

Just want to add to what was already said;

I assume that the proof you have is based on screenshots. These are not accepted by Jagex as valid, as they are very easily manipulated.
Reporting in-game is the only way to provide Jagex with an accurate description of the situation.
