There was already a Permission Rewrite planned and set-up. But as this was too big of a thing, it will now be split into several updates. The first being; clan mutes (which is now in development).

I've heard rumors about that. Do they have information on all the permission rewrites planned anywhere?

Yes, it is in full detail on the Clan Leader Forums.

Why not post that information on Clan Central?

This might be worth a read for some Clan Leaders - Update Frequency

I read this, Mod Matthe, and it totally saddened me. Where Mod Pips said this under the FAQ:
Why don’t you increase the size of the development team?

We already have what we believe is one of the largest development teams for online games, with 5 sub-teams all focused on content updates - and that doesn’t count the separate team working on Solomon’s Store and Treasure Hunter, or Old School. We already have a big team which matches what we can afford, so we want to find ways work more effectively for you, rather than expand.

This in particular saddened me. Why? If they have that many in the development team, that also means that they have the support teams (graphics/testing/etc) as well. And yet when we ask for things here we are most often told that there are no resources for what we are asking for.

I know you say that clan updates, particularly large ones, are not supported by the players in RuneLabs. But also keep in mind, those players consist of groups that have either been leaders and decided not to be any more or a large majority of people that have never been a leader and have not clue what it takes to be one.

To me, this means that future updates voted on by players in general in RuneLabs will not take issues we have in running clans because they have no idea what they are, but large updates like new quests will be attractive to them.

Mechanics in the background are very important to clan leaders, but now we find more and more often we have to set up off site areas to deal with the issues that cannot be changed here. And we cannot even link to those areas or sites.

There are massive constraints and demands on those development resources - the expectation in relation to quests, minigames, or any other update we might produce are higher than ever and the requirements graphically and testing wise have only increased as we add more and more content and technology to the game. The development team is based around those needs size wise and includes 3 retention teams, 1 ninja and 1 community development team, all of whom are tasked to produce certain amounts of releases in order to ensure we have a full release schedule.

The discussion that has been begun is because a number of the items players would like, partial or full skill reworks, clan mechanics updates or more quests, all use more resources than a small or often even medium development slot in a release schedule can possibly allow for. Without a look at how we release it is never going to be likely we get more of those level of update out than we do now.

Honestly I think fewer larger updates would be better for the health of the game. At the moment it seems like we are having things crammed down our throat and much of it seems to be rushed to fit this "schedule'. I think if the players were forced to be patient and wait for some bigger and higher quality updates then they would realize they are much happier.

There are definite advantages to moving off of a weekly schedule, but whether everyone agrees they are valid is another matter of course :)

The problem is, as it always is with Jagex, the slippery slope. I think I agree that less new content updates, while focusing on bigger needed aspects such as skills/minigames/guilds reworks would be better. Obviously the poll will show in the end, but I think most people would agree to this.

However, I think a lot of people are scared to pick this option and then see the update pool dry up immediately and then our vote be used against us as justification. Not saying this is what will happen, but it's a fear that players hold.

Especially after the skill cape remodel, which many people think resulted in worse/equally bad capes, but they can't legitimately complain because its what they voted. By the way, has there been an opinion poll on skill cape redesign? I've been too busy with work to check in and see.

@ MrBrokenBow

Thank you for the reply, I did see that on Reddit. I'm curious about an opinion poll, however, since most new updates have been getting one. TBH, I do prefer new capes to old, but the flatness and tassels (good lord the tassels...) really bother a lot of people. So to many, its the option between the lesser of two evils, an outdated and mismatched (compared to current gear) design, or a flat cape where the tassels distract and don't match.

Matthe, I'm really worried about something, because I've noticed a trend of things going on:

-Increased Membership rates
-Announcing no more support for F2P offence appeals
-Fewer updates
-Merging dev departments

Everything at Jagex HQ is going smoothly....right...?
