Something that I felt the fellow leaders and jmods could answer...

One of my Co-Owners was planning on hosting a long term clan related event, with the prize being IRL (An amount of $1,000, to be exact, from their own funds.) I wanted to ask opinions on this. Am I allowed to post this on our clans recruitment thread? Are there things I should take into consideration? (I know them IRL, so do take my word for it that they can be trusted.) Let me know your thoughts and/or ideas on this. Constrictive criticism is accepted.

People often ask if I'm Irish. I'm descended from them, but... not really, no. I hope I will be one day!

I have never seen any non-Jagex thread on the forums offering an irl cash prize.

Code of conduct-wise it may be removed from the forums under suspicion of rwt. Not in the standard sense where you're selling items for irl cash, but in the sense that you're almost buying the services of those participating in the competition using irl cash.

Furthermore, everything posted on the RSOF should be strictly within the game sphere unless you're posting in the Offtopic section. Tieing irl connections and sharing personal info between players (as you would have to do to make the final cash transfer) isn't something the RSOF endorses due to the potentially grave risks I believe.

So if you're going ahead with this, I think you should post about it on your clan's offsite forum only, if you have one. That way Jagex don't have to take any responsibility at all for anything that might go wrong.

My clannies and I continually discuss how we plan to celebrate our someday achievement of 100b clan xp. I've told them all that I will buy them each a pizza -

In the form of purchasing a gift card online and sending them the code.

But you will not find that advertised anywhere on a thread [it's here because well, I wanted to respond].

It's great to motivate clannies, but we gotta remember 2 things -

1) Not everyone is comfortable sharing their information online - even as much as favorite local pizza place that I can purchase a giftcard online for [say dominos or whatever national chain which doesn't necessarily identify them].

2) Most clannies don't need that sort of 'reward'. they play this game for the things the game offers. The friendships, the community, the ingame goals, so most prizes, imo, should be game related.

Another touchy area we have found - some clannies are excited to 'win' an item from the jagex store - again this stuff is done through our offsite ventures. You still need their mailing address and that, again for many isn't a comfortable thing. And that's okay!

I'd suggest that anyone you send money to you use a paypal account, so that the only risk is knowing the sender & receivers email address.
But also, I don't think is strictly allowed under game rules, so keep it to in-game talk or, essentially, off the RS Forums (the official ones, at least).

We have no way of knowing how legitimate the offering is, or how the competition would be umpired. We would not recommend such competitions therefore. Mod MattHe | Former Community Manager, now in Events & occasional Lore Monkey

In summary of what the others have said: Don't do anything that could be treated as RWT on Runescape or in-game. I would even refrain from advertising "real-life prizes," since that can still be considered RWT. Instead, I'd direct people to the off-site and to read about the details there.

The other leaders have also brought up some really good points about how some people aren't comfortable participating in IRL competitions, due to the level of personal information divulging involved. It's important to be mindful of that and to respect it
