These threads may be of interest:

1) This thread (don't post on it - it will be considered gravebumping and be locked)[/quote]

2) This thread (don't post on it - it will be considered gravebumping and therefor be locked)

3) This thread (you can post on this one as its recent)

There was another thread by 'bodyy' which is on a similar issue about no ranks which i'll try find.

-----------------------------------

How did you pick your key ranks?

Some of the threads go into more detail on how I and other clan leaders pick ranks - In terms of Recruit - General, myself and my deputy rank up people based on but not limited too:

- Loyalty
- Activeness
- Helpfulness
- Willingness
- Maturity
- Recommendation by an Admin+

In terms of Admin - Deputy rank, this is done on a recommendation basis and then a vote on if the person should be ranked up.

There is a criteria however which isn't limited too:

- The above
- Good management skills
- Good communication skills
- Good organisational skills
- Good team working skills

How long had they been in the clan?

For you to get Admin in my clan you need too have been in the clan a minimum of at least 6 months. My deputy has been in the clan 3.5 years and my overseer (was deputy took a voluntary derank because of inactivity) has been in the clan 5.5 years

Was there any animosity over them being picked over others?

There has never been any animosity in my clan. When a rank up/de rank has been done by myself it is final so there is no fights.

In terms of being selected over someone else again no fights. Clan members are always welcome too ask us what they can do too achieve a rank up as well as understand loyalty is one of the main qualities.

Can you run a clan on 2 keys?

You can run a clan with just one - The ranks of Admin - Deputy can have the permission set up so they can recruit/set up the citadel etc.

Having admins does help lessen the burden on yourself from having to do everything by yourself.

Some clans give each admin+ rank a job description and what that position entails. - In my clan for example I am the Head of Staff/Citadel/Recruitment, my admins can choose to take a position or a few positions but that's upto them and isn't required.

The only jobs all my admin+ ranks have to do is to ensure all clan rules are being followed and if there is any drama then sort it out.

Do I actually need other key ranks?

Answered this above. - But this totally comes down to you. - There is no rush, those who are willing to go above and beyond for the clan will make themselves known and that can be decided then.

-----------------------------------------------------

Also Vivy has made a very important point, i'd recommend sitting down and thinking about the current situation i.e

What happened?
Why did it happen?
Could it have been resolved?
Could it have been dealt in a different way?
What safeguards can/will you put in place?
What have you learn from this experience?

After that... Set up a good ranking structure and follow it through and go from there. I personally don't like xp based ranking or point based ranking as it only tells you so much about that clan member.

For example I'd rather have a clan member with 50m clan xp who is helping other clan members/coming to events/capping in the citadel....than a clan member with 1b clan xp who doesn't do anything as a high rank.

Other than that, if there is anything you need don't be shy to add me and pm me - I can help teach admin about the citadel and the like if you need.

- How did you pick your key ranks?

Chosen between active clan members who really help often and already had an admin rank aswell

- How long had they been in the clan?

All over a year which is about 1/3rd of our clan age.

- Was there any animosity over them being picked over others?

Not really, almost everyone was happy with the choise (besides the usually people not)

- Can you run a clan on 2 keys?

My Deputy Owners are capeable of leading the clan without me for several days.

- Do I actually need other key ranks?

Technically no, but I reccomend u do. When my clan was new I did all the work myself but when the clan keeps getting larger it is reccomended to give some tasks away to others. (delegating is also a leadership skill I guess). Otherwise u might burn out from all the work and when u are absent u do want someone to look in chat etc...

- How did you pick your key ranks? We don't work with clan chat ranks, but I assume you mean leader ranks. We usually pick someone who is already a staff member and promote them or pick an ex-leader (our clan is 10 years old, so we have a lot of ex-leaders). Before I was promoted to Leader I had already had most other staff ranks.

- How long had they been in the clan? 6 months at minimum.

- Was there any animosity over them being picked over others? Not really.

- Can you run a clan on 2 keys? Technically we could, but we don't want to. I've seen clanleaders before burning themselves out from taking all the workload, so I'd rather share the load between more people. I wish all my staff members a healthy life and if I notice they do too much for the clan while they should spend more time doing other things I advise them to take some time off.

- Do I actually need other key ranks? I don't know how much workload your clan has, but it's never a bad idea to share it with others. Ranks themselves are only indicators, I often ask people to do things for the clan independent of their rank. Everyone has a different set of skills, as a leader you just have to pick someone who is most suited for a certain job. It's pointless to rank people up if you don't fully trust them. So far it seems you've ranked the wrong people. Do you have any other communication methods besides the clan chat? Voicechat, IRC, offsite, Kik/Whatsapp?

Hi Zeb,

My advice would be to take your time and not rush to fill the key ranks. Let your clan know where help is required and see who steps up – without expecting a promotion first.

My experience has been that those who make promises in order to gain rank tend to lose interest once they have what they want. Those that have a genuine interest in supporting the clan will just do so. It is easy to award higher ranks, much harder to take it away without causing upset.

Good luck :)

Dayum that must suck really hard. And lots of people already mentioned it above how and what.

If i were you I'd change some settings/permissions first so only few can kick.
And make sure a rank can mute recruits (incase of trouble). That's how my clan and I do it.

If you need an extra eye I could let an alt join your clan and guest in it with my main. So if things happen you could react quickly

When we formed our clan, we chose family and people we knew IRL to hold the deputy keys.

Honestly, with summer, I do pretty much all the administrative work, which is fine. I hold the gold key and I made all the silvers share as many permissions with me as possible.

It works.

But I have spoken to our keys that as our clan is growing, our 3 bronze key members should likely begin training with the intent to take on silver keys within the next year.

Your clans goals and activities can also factor in who holds what rank. Less is more has always been my feelings.

I want to just say one thing about ranking up people. I think people who put in effort to help out the group, no matter how much time they play, are the ones who deserve the ranks.

I mean if you play 30 hours a week and speak and help the clan 2 hours then ok well your here.

If you play 3 hours a week but 2 hours of that is helping clan in some way.. Well look, your doing way more work for time your playing than the 30 hour player.

My clan is based on a point system, which puts a lot of work on me and one other deputy owner who really does a whole lot (thanks eeyorefan). But, in the end, the people who work
toward the good of all rank up faster than the ones worried only about themselves.

Thats just my way of ranking up. Its worked well for 5 years. Although, as i said it does put a lot of work on key ranks to keep track of events, and other things we use to see who is
actually putting time into clan not only runescape.

Although I am leader, it takes everyone to make the clan great!!
