I know the ideal solution is fixing the font, but until something is done from Jagex's end, this is the only way to prevent this and make sure you're 100% covered against it. It doesn't take much time and it's worth it for the potential victim it's going to save or the headache/worry in general. Best to be proactive and safe.

For example, my friend whose RSN is Emerelle has had two impersonators on two separate occasions so far with the RSN's: Emereiie and Emereile. The only one they haven't used yet is Emerelie. If she'd created accounts and taken those names before, it wouldn't have happened and could potentially prevent large scams.

its not our job to claim every name similar to ours

this is a waste of good names.

It is however jagex job to change the font

It is our job to make clan members aware

Sadly as much as i ban trust trading people are still prone to trust people in hi rank

Clan members do have orange dots please look before u trade

Personally speaking my clan has not had this issue, my members know any alts which belong to myself and my admins and the majority of my clan members are in the clan skype group and can quickly ask in there if to check if an account is ours or not.

Additionally myself mainly, I've put myself on my platforms so my members have a vast array of ways of contacting me should they wish to clarify on an account.

I suppose this is a solution but it just becomes a really big pain having to make RSN combinations to ensure no one can impersonate you. What about in the legitimate circumstance someone wanted the name lgnore List as I have Ignore List? - I've just taken away that ability for a genuine player who may have wanted to use the RSN in a legit way.

I agree with the above - I liked the old font style the game used, it was far easier to tell if someone was using an upper case or lower case or an o or 0.

Once it happened in my clan too that at the night when I was sleeping someone entered to clan chat with an account that looked like one of our members and asked loan for a bond. One of our nice guys gave it but made screenshot.

We figured out who was behind it: an ex member who we kicked for botting months ago. Carefully reading the conversation some of us found little details, not in content but wording. It took some time and discussing.

So we almost knew who it can be but wasn't sure. One of alts involved we remembered visiting us many months ago.

One of our high ranks, a long time member then contacted the clan leader of next clan where this guy went after being kicked. Clan leader remembered alt accounts that lately visited his clan chat too. He said it would be next to impossible that this inactive alt accounts with low stats randomly appeared in both clans territory and the timing also seemed so. Kicked guy was the only link between our clans currently. Scammer was from other country than mine and next joined the clan where members speak his language.

Leader thanked us for letting him know about scammers past botting and he said if he ever knew about it would never been accepting him. Scammer got instantly booted from his new clan. Due to being in his native community while scam his bad reputation is going to stick with him.


I do not support taking all possible names but I suggest to put on visitors entering messages that admin + or higher ranks see who enters clan chat. We got this on.

I'm glad our clanny made printscreen when he lent money, it didn't prevent the scam but gave us clue.

I also said to the clanmates if they ever feel something suspicious about loan ask the member who borrows money join our voice chat or join clan forums. In this places is nearly impossible to fake a clanny - first, they won't have correct ranks or acess and even if had, they wouldn't have the same voice (:

I agree with OP and sincerely advice clan owners or maxed players with an ''i'' in their name to pro-actively prevent this from happening to them.

For me it is a bit late, someone took my copycat-name Vreemdeiinge.
No attempts to real abuse have been made, just some (still very nasty) social jokes, pm-ing ppl to see how they react...
I barely can wait till this come free so i can claim it myself on an alt. Sad news is they are now probably ftp so this might go on some year... depending on when she is coming back to payed membership.

Also one of my Coordinators has his copycat-name taken this week. Same tric, an ''l'' replaced by a capital ''i''. This one evidently is an abuser since he pm-ed some clannies asking for donations. We regularly warned the clannies in our cc for this person since we found out.

Another copy-able letter is capital Q which can look like capital O.



Question: Is there a waiting period after the copycat abandons my copy-name or can i claim it on my alt right after it becomes free?
