possibly but I think generally people who start a new game are pretty much too busy getting togrips with it, the interface, the actions etc to engage too much in conversation and beyond that i would think specific numbers would be somewhat meaningless to them to care also.
True that. Honestly speaking, I doubt publicizing hours played would make a palpable or even slight difference to Runescape overall, but it might, to niche competitive communities that sometimes I'm exposed to.
For example, I don't understand why people care so much about being in the the top 200 overall--I understand being in the top 50, because your name is pretty visible, but not so much the top 200--or even having the most firemaking experience earned in a day, for example. As such, I don't know how much people would care about "hours played."
Consequently, I don't know if being competitive about hours played would take things too far, and if Jagex should avoid people from taking it so far by not publicizing total hours played.
I know that it's not really Jagex's responsibility to preclude such things, but morally speaking it's something that really should be kept in mind.
Overall, though, it'd be really cool to compare hours played, and I'd personally appreciate such a feature. But I do have that nagging feeling that questions the morality of implementing such a feature.
