While I can understand your perspective on the situation, what would make a Legacy Leader (like me) want to come recruit for you?

From what I can see, you're looking for someone to essentially work for you and they get a shiny rank in return, which doesn't sound attractive at all.

As far as I can tell, it's going to need A LOT more than just someone recruiting for your clan. Which brings me to my next question: "What other issues are you facing?"

-Are members not interacting with each other?

-What does your clan stand for?

-What's your end-game for the clan?

-What do you do for the clan to keep it running?

-Why do you have the requirements, what purpose does it serve to your clan?

-What makes you want to keep this clan in-tact?

-Besides recruiting, what else do you need?

etc etc etc ...

Personally, I don't care about getting a rank or not. Clans are means to get players together, make friends/share your achievements/go on adventures with and so on. As a legacy leader, I have little incentive to even join the clan, let alone recruit for you.

Recruiting is work, work is not fun - one that a shiny rank alone doesn't compensate. When something becomes a chore, it's hard to stay motivated. So, how invested in the clan are you? What plans do you have for it?

The players essentially define your clan, if it's dying now, it will take more than just recruiting. Which I'd be happy to help with, but other than the rank, why should I spend my time/effort on your clan?

(You don't have to reply here, PM is fine.)

Detailed response, Guardian. I thank you for that. I’ll answer your questions as best as I can.

- Yes. Part of that reason is we don't have ENOUGH members. This applies to the clan chat, however. We have a discord which some people are involved in, due to the fact that messages stay there indefinitely.
- I'd like my clan to be an all-around clan, so to speak. PvM, Skilling, Minigames, etc. I can set up skilling events without too much trouble, however, we lack the playerbase to do so.
- I think having an end-game for the clan leaves no room for growth, so i'd personally never like to answer this question. If I had to though, the end game would be knowing that the clan would continue to succeed and grow without me (having a successor, so to speak.) I suppose I want this clan to a place where people can go pop into the discord and say "hey, what's up?" and be greeted by 10 or more people that are in there. The times we've been active, we've been pretty close & tight knit.
- I do what I can. I've set up a facebook, a twitter, and a thread. I maintain those as best as I can. I've run the clan for 6 years, and that's no easy task, believe me. As stated above, I can set up events (I have the money to set up skilling events with decent prizes, as well.) I have probably one flaw, and that would be recruiting, which is the one thing we currently need. I spent 15 hours total during double exp weekend, and got 2 members overall. Last night, I spent 4 hours in world 2 burthorpe, and got no-one. I'm putting in the effort, I just simply can't do it.

- The requirements are there to make sure that the people we get are somewhat experienced in the game, in aspects such as Skilling, PvM, and Minigames (sounds familiar?) Also, people who meet are requirements are active for the most part. If I was to go recruit someone who had a total level of 100, who's to say that person will keep playing? He could have just given RuneScape a shot, and isn't enjoying the game. He could quit. People who meet are requirements have been playing for a decent amount of time, and I am confident that they will continue to do so.
- Ever since I began RuneScape and found out about clans (even before the current clan system,) i've always wanted to be the leader of one. I believe it's my love for the game, the community, and the clan. I've worked 6 years to build it, and I'd hate to see that go to waste. This clan has a few people still lingering, people that are still loyal and helpful. They are some of the best people I've ever known, and those are the type of people that I want to see in the clan. I know I'm sounding a bit selfish here, I won't deny that, but I also am trying to help the game in general.
- Alongside events, I'd have to say stability. There haven't been many times where I could consider the clan "stable." Stable meaning we have a strong leadership team (besides myself, I'm one person,) and an active player base. People leave the clan every day, it's inevitable. Due to the fact I can't recruit, I can't bring people to the clan to make up for the ones that leave. The clan needs stability, and I'm unsure how to make that happen.

As I stated before, I'm pretty much the only leader in my clan now. I want to be able to run it with other people, and enjoy doing so. I want to be a part of a team that has built something great, and that is the clan. You have little incentive to join it, I can understand that. And I won't lie, you're going to have little incentive to stay in it. There's probably nothing I can say to change that but this:

If you give it time, it will be worth your while.

I'm just one man. One man alone cannot do much. Peter F Drucker said "A person can perform only from strength. One cannot build performance on weaknesses, let alone on something one cannot do at all." Recruiting is my weakness. I’ve tried to build on that, and it’s destroyed a good part of my motivation.

Another man once said “Although individuals need not be well-rounded, teams should be.” As I said before I’m just one man. The clan needs to have a strong leadership team in order to be great. On rare occasions through history, a well rounded individual has come up: Napoleon, da Vinci, Mozart, etc. Those people are rare exceptions, and I’m not afraid to say I am not, nor will I ever be, one of them.

I know where to find people who can set up events, whether they be PvM or Skilling, and I can do some of those myself (specifically skilling.) But asking them to set up events in my clan is no different then asking them to set up a yard sale in antarctica. Recruiting has to come first, individuals have to come first, PEOPLE have to come first. People are the blood of a clan: they are their own person, part of something that can be great. Only time will tell.

While I agree with most you said, there's a few exceptions that might be worth to check out.

Quality over Quantity: As I'm guesting right now, no one is speaking. It could be because of several reasons, that I won't go into details now but you mentioned in your post: "People must come in first."

You'd be surprised with what you could accomplish with the people you already have in your clan. As I'm guesting right now, out of ~15 players online only 1 person replied. Setting the right example for the clan and how one another interacts with each other would make a world of a difference.

ESPECIALLY, when it comes to recruiting new members. When I joined as a guest, I'd at least expect a welcome-message. I could recruit all day long but if the clan members/staff don't help along, then it'll all be for nothing.

Things like that, would make the world of a difference and is easily implementable. Clan leaders have to come up with more and more things to keep the chat flowing, make it attractive for future members and helps improve moral for current members.

You said that the requirements are there to 'ensure' that players with a bit more experience will stay. I have to disagree, while I can understand the sentiment, but you will NEVER truly know what keeps them in. But keeping the chat flowing, personal and friendly is what 9 out of 10 members that I've recruited in the past have mentioned to me is what made them stay; stay in the clan and stay in the game.

As a Clan Leader, you can change that. Set the standard for current and new members. Let them know 'what's up' and keep them involved. Any possible recruit now, as I see it, will not be attracted to lots of 'mute'-members.

I think lowering or removing the requirements, might do your clan a lot of good. Be personal, give people something to talk about (new recruit's goals for example.) and set the new standard.

So that brings me to this question: How flexible are you with changes being made to the clan?

Paddy,

I thought of something else regarding recruiting.

If you use the Looking For Clans (LFC) forums avoid copy-and-paste responses to potential recruits. A personal note can help you stand out from the rest with someone who is looking for a clan home.

It's really a shame that the forums aren't as active as they once were. From what I understand, Reddit is very restrictive when it comes to what clans are able to do in regards to recruitment, so we're limited in our options in that respect.

"How flexible are you with changes being made to the clan?"
It depends on the changes, really. I personally do not want to remove the requirements, however I'm not totally against lowering them for the time being (I would raise them again once the clan got back to being very, very active.) Whatever changes could be made to get the clan chat lit up, I would be willing to make.

You shouldn't just have one or two "recruiters" I think it's a clan effort. Ok, so some of you are not "good at recruiting" but that's no excuse not to chip in and recruit when and where there is an opportunity.

If you are so incapable of that, you could at least come up with some generic line to convey the message your clan is recruiting.

My advice is just make it a clan effort, not a couple people. That's too much to put on them. Spread the "work" out so that everyone is having more fun.
