Firstly, thanks Slave Dradin for your comment. I thought it was self-explanatory, but it seems I was wrong. I have just made some small modifications to make it more clear.
And Hello Heart, nice to see you again! Welcome back, hopefully we can see you in game more often now
.
Dear Aunty Revenge,
How does one deal with beggers? I know it's in my own best intrest to ignore them but sometimes I feel so sorry for them. Is there a way to know if a person really needs help or is just being lazy? And how much is "too much" help to give?
Signed,
Old Softy
Dear Softy,
Helping people or at least wanting to is never wrong, compassion sets us apart from the trolls lol. As long as you arent going around with a sign on your back that says" sucker" theres nothing wrong with helping people occasionaly. One of the ways I judge who to help is by how much help they say they need. And by how willing they are to learn how to solve their own problem. First I offer advice, information, and sympathy. Then, depending on their response, I may go ahead and offer resources or cash. If they are asking for some ridiculous amount for something like drygores or such I usually pass on handing out cash. Lets face it, people tend to respect and take care of things they have to work for more than gimmes.
Don't be afraid to say no, politely, but no. Good people will understand and anyone else will give you up as a bad cause. And for the persistant ones there's always the ignore button
. I will be generous here and say most people dont know how to make money and would if they did. Always try the "teach a man to fish" principal first, and allow them the dignity of finding their own solution. For those that claim to have been hacked or lured, getting hacked now days is pretty much your own fault, stupidity is its own reward, giving them money wont give them brains. Luring on the other hand is kind of a grey area. Most of us try to believe in the good in people, the rest are dedicated to preying on that belief. A gentle lecture and a little cash assist is not a bad response.
Charity shows more about the character of the giver than the receiver.
