5.1 Walking a Penguin

This is the process of keeping a penguin enclosed in a small area and moving it a short distance each step. It requires 5 people and 1 pet, and they all need to know what they are doing.

Ideally, it should look something like this:

_ _ _ _

_
1 2
_

6
A
_
3

_
4 5
_

The pet is the 6 above, and it *must* belong to player 3 above.

Setup

1) Without trampling the penguin, player 3 must put the pet behind the penguin and step in front of the penguin.

2) Players 1 and 4 must block off the other open spaces so that the penguin cannot move.

3) Players 2 and 5 must step one space in front of players 1 and 4.

4) Player 3 takes one step forward.

It should now look like the diagram above!

Moving the Walk Positions

If this is not done carefully, you will lose the penguin.

The pet (6) will automatically follow the penguin and one space it again as shown below.

_ _ _ _

_
1 2
_

_
6
A
3

_
4 5
_

_ _ _ _

Player 1 must carefully step NE . Player 4 must step carefully SE . Take a forward diagonal step, no matter which way it is facing.

_ _
1
_

_ _
2
_

_
6
A
3

_ _
5
_

_ _
4
_

Both players must step in front of players 2 and 5.

At this point, player 3 can take one more step forward. Repeat this section until the walk is finished.

5.2 The Chariot - Background

Make sure to fully understand how to walk a penguin before attempting this. The tl;dr version of the chariot is that it is an unbreakable walking of a penguin (assuming no tramplers).

.•´¯`•._.•´¯`•.

This is, with 5 highly competent players, the most foolproof way of herding a penguin. Powotae is the person who conceived this move and has been able to pull one off. I have never been a part of a chariot, but I understand the theory behind it.

Diagrams will only take you so far. It is best to watch the video made by a certain former guru to see it work in action. I explain step by step how it works, but to see one makes all of the difference.

.•´¯`•._.•´¯`•.

For as effective as this move is in herding a penguin, it has been extremely rarely used. That is because you only have 14 seconds to set it up at most, which is a very limited amount of time. One mistaken move, and the effort can fall apart fast. It is difficult to turn and move around obstacles.

If you choose to ever use this, I would recommend trying it first on an enclosed penguin where there are few obstacles (Dorgesh Kaan in the main room might be perfect). Work on setting it up before the penguin moves and especially work on turning it. It is DEFINITELY not recommended to use this on worlds 60, 71, or 99 because you will be trampled frequently!

.•´¯`•._.•´¯`•.

Sadly, the other two versions of the Chariot (Stretch Chariot and OHOS) will no longer work, because PID is random with every action. Those players needed to be in a precise move order, which is no longer possible.

Any more complex than this, and the technique begins to fall apart. :(

5.3 The Chariot - Setting Up

This is the easiest way to set it up. It works in ANY direction.
(P = penguin, A-E = players who own goats 1-5.)

Our goal is to move East.

Step 1:

The penguin stops in space, and nobody runs over it / near it.

_ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _
_ _
P
_ _
_ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _

Steps 2-4:

Player
E
sets up in front of the penguin with their goat behind it.

_ _ _ _ _........ _ _ _ _ _........ _ _ _ _ _
_
E
_ _ _........ _ _
E
_ _........ _ _ _ _ _
_
5
P
_ _........ _
5
P
_ _........ _
5
P
E
_
_ _ _ _ _........ _ _ _ _ _........ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _........ _ _ _ _ _........ _ _ _ _ _

Steps 5-6:

Players
A
and
B
set up either side of player E with their goats either side of the penguin.

_ _ _ _ _........ _ _ _ _ _
_
1 A
_ _........ _ _
1 A

5
P
E
_........ _
5
P
E
_
_
2 B
_ _........ _ _
2 B
_
_ _ _ _ _........ _ _ _ _ _

The first 6 steps must be completed within 15 seconds of the penguin stopping. This is to one space it so that it cannot move while the rest of the steps can be performed.

5.5 Turning The Chariot

The aim of this post is to turn your chariot from east to north. Just turn the map until your chariot looks like the one below:

_ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _
3
1 A
C
_
_ _
5
P
E

Step 1:

Players
C
and
d
break away.
Player
A
steps 1 N.W.

Step 2:

Players
C
and
d
set up next to player
A
with their goats south of them.

_ _
_ _
5
P
E

Step 3:

Player
A
moves 1 North

_ _
4
_
3
_ _
_ _
5
P
E
_ _
_ _ _
2 B
_ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _

Step 4: The penguin moves 1 North, and goat
5
moves East

C

_ _
4
P
3

_ _ _
5 E

Most herders will be able to reach this point without difficulty. It will be the next four steps, and especially steps 5 and 6, that will be most difficult.
