The discussion is really about the two views posted here. Most people agree that a health hazard is a health hazard and Jagex should address it, especially when it has been changed from an acceptable set of colours previously.

The other view is that it's down to the player to use minimum graphics to reduce the hazard but, as this spoils the enjoyment of the game, I'm not sure why anyone would think it was an acceptable solution.

Why would anyone want to play on minimum graphics when they have the equipment to play on max, especially when the graphics are such an integral part of the game? The fix is simple, go back to the previous colour scheme.

IMO it looks cool, but not for long. Despite the claims of AFK, rituals require tight focus and no background music.

You can't just turn down the graphics and make it go away. The other event where you click the tile 3 times is also Supernova bright.

If there was a setting to turn it off I would. 100%. There is not a chance I would keep that graphic, even though it does look cool for a minute.

I haven't really stared at it, because that is such an obviously bad idea. But I'm pretty sure if I did, I would turn into a werewolf. Don't want that.

True. Rituals do require you to pay attention in order to do them efficiently.

Of course, in many cases when people talk about "being AFK", what they really mean is botting. Bots need not worry about their eyesight, or their health in general.

As for music, I do not listen to RS background music at all. When I play, I am usually listening to either hard rock or 90s alternative. :D

Ever since Jagex unleashed their horrible driver update two weeks ago, I have been playing on MIN or LOW graphics. I have been on LOW detail for over a week now, and I think it looks better than the HIGH setting I was using pre-update. The colors do not appear to be as dark and washed-out as they had looked on HIGH.

Maybe this could make the supernova effect ever brighter, I am not sure. However, at least the game is still playable in LOW detail. No more constant freezing and crashing.
I've been putting out fire with gasoline! ^_^

Sigh,... flashing lights, the bright flares from skill capes, some of the flashy animations, the ritual site centre, the jellies in the relleka slayer dungeon..

All make it harder and harder to play when you have eyesight issues.. even when playing on min.

And then there are the things that cannot be seen on min due to it being to dark or something happens too quick to clearly see it.

Come on Jagex, please consider eye health as a priority.

"As for music, I do not listen to RS background music at all."

That's what I meant, other music. The ritual site sounds are another story. The music and area sounds seem scientifically designed to make me feel uncomfortable. The whooshing that takes place during the ritual is not very high on my list.

I'm just in it for the sizzle. Nothing else matters. If I fail the defiled blob event all my efforts are wasted. It's too disappointing.

I normally stared at the pedestal, and wished it was a little shorter so I could easily see behind it. Now the flames make it even larger, and I lose interest from avoiding direct eye contact.

I should add that I have all the RS sound effects at maximum volume. I only have the RS music muted. I have no trouble hearing the audio cues, so long as I do not play my music too loud.

I am familiar with the area sounds, such as the whooshing, but I have not heard the uncomfortable music. From your description, I can understand why that would be unpleasant.

I think people are missing the whole point of this thread.

When there is a change of graphic people need to be aware of how this change effects their gameplay experience.

I am an old player - I played this game for 20 years (almost) and used to speak to Paul and Mod Ash when the shit hit the fan.

Also i had mod in game friends and many forum mod friends so we could get our messages to the top quite quickly.

On this point of bright burn - it is a real issue for elderly players.

I have explained in previous posts how this effects me personally.

This is not a small issue - when you play a game in one place for hours and hours on end bright burn will give you retina burnout and over time this may be un-recoverable.

The safety of the gaming community comes first.

I have already posted how i can not play the ritual site for necromancy for any period over 15 minutes.

This may be due to my age but none the less it is an issue for me personally.

Before the graphic update i had no issue what so ever and was at the ritual sits for maybe 10 hours a day.

Now i cant spend 15 minutes there - i do have a fix - i now tape up the well of souls with a piece of black tape on my computer screen.

Is this the depths i have to drop to to play the game.

Sensible graphic design is the key - bright violet and blue colours will take your eyesight.

I am an old player ( I'm a pensioner ) and I find that turning the skybox to midday reduces the effect of the flare from the pedestal. There's not so much contrast between the general light level and the 'flames'.
