This game is more dead than ever, I for one don't plan on coming back unless you make Grace of the Elves a F2P item, I certainly don't intend to spend extra money on this game with how greedy the developers/investors are, especially with how rude the developers are and how they handle their consumer base, it's not only insulting and infuriating, but also absolutely disgusting and dishonest.

I thought it was the MTX that drove players away and I'm sure it did many, but I have a feeling the way the Developers treated their consumer base is an even larger part of why so many people left this game. As a long time player 20+ years on multiple accounts I was treated very badly on only a second offense with a perma mute ensuring I'll never spend real money on this game again, another loss for investors, Jagex really has no idea what they're doing, from the EoC update to every single nerf they were "Listening to feedback" on, to every MTX update and to the drop rates plus so much more, we all get some drops should be super rare which should be the exception in this game however it isn't, not every single drop should take months to earn, these people don't even respect our time as parents or family members or just regular human beings in general, enough is enough.

If Jagex has any hope of keeping this game alive with the possibility of future memberships, they better start making F2P a lot more fun and accessible otherwise this game is going to die.

When Onyx has never been f2p before 2007, why should a higher tier product based on Onyx be f2p?

Players have been OK before 2007 with Onyx being not F2P and hardly will they think a product based on Onyx - Alchemical Onyx not being f2p will have any impact to the F2P or member sentiments.

To make one requires onyx, and that has been a members only item since it was introduced in 2005. F2P is to give you a taste, anybody who wants to play this game for real is nuts not to buy membership.

Generally speaking the only time a perm mute is given out is when one has been so naughty that you really deserve an outright ban, but eh, we'll just shut you up and take your money anyway. In real life saying whatever you did would either get you arrested, sued, and/or punched in the mouth.

So if you are looking for sympathy it ain't happening.

F2P have been given access to a lot more over the years than they ever had in the earlier days. The map was expanded, access to members skills (up to a level threshold), additional quests, the ability to post on the forums and that's just to name a general few.

Given the content of the rest of your post, it has me wondering if access to a singular item going to wash away the negative view you have against the developers? A lot can be done from the free to play version of the game, but membership will always have more perks all around. You can also be a member and not spend a cent on any MTX promotions if you don't like them.

When the Squeal of Fortune was released, a JMod posted here on these forums (I won't be able to dig it up now, it's been so long ago) to "vote with your wallet". The community has been voting with their wallets and the content remained in the game. If nobody purchased anything from the MTX promotions, it would've failed and been removed. You can be as anti-MTX as you want, but Jagex isn't the one to blame. If you want to blame anyone for the existence and continuation of MTX, blame those who open their wallets to those transactions.

Otherwise, it's just as good to be mad at a car manufacturer because someone else on the road bought extra parts for theirs to make it look prettier than yours did from the factory.
