The main issue you pointed out is the bots an easy way to combat them would be to use the existing bot finding tools but add the ability to track where the cursed energy is being traded. bot banning tools have always worked but when there is no level to entry they use a master account to trade the energy. sounds daft I know but the root of the problem here is the bots anything that does not directly get to the root of the problem is a no go for me.

not to discredit your great idea but pker's taking down bots most likely has no impact on the bot nor would pickpocketing them. any change would impact the real players unless it directly targets the bots.

Hey Flumps :)

True, targeting the bots directly is the best option. Jagex hasn't been able to remove them from the game unfortunately... so I was trying to come up with the closest thing to a solution that I could - without harming the players.

Best solution:
Get rid of the bots. No negatives. Currently, not possible.

Jagex's current solution:
Allow everyone to attack a player with cursed energy in their inventory. Positives - it does largely reduce the speed that bots can gather cursed energy. Negatives - this harms low leveled players, as they cannot compete with maxed mains. This destroys combat level diversity and ruins the pking experience for anyone who isn't a maxed main. Unfair.
Also, mains can boost their wilderness kill counts on opponents that are not really worthy to award kill count, giving a poor reflection on how good they really are at pvp. Having lots of wilderness kill count really means nothing... unfortunately (mostly kills from level 3 bots).

My proposed solution: Positives - will largely reduce the speed that bots can gather cursed energy through pvp, or pickpocketing. Doesn't harm low level pkers and maintains combat level diversity. No more mains picking on legitimate* low level gatherers and player killers.

Thought I'd explain my intentions more clearly :P
Thanks for your response :)

so what about locking the cursed spot behind some specific quest or quest points? It's unfair that a member skill can be done on f2p ( where 99% of the bots were farming since 2 months ). I've seen as much as 8/12 bots on every single world on f2p and this is really hurting the economy

Actually to enter t80 and t90 divination areas you have to do some quests so why cant a quest lock the wildy area? i mean put a big gate and close the volcano for whoever hasnt the required skill level or quest

This would likely send anything that has to deal with energies way up just like when they allowed all to attack the bots. When that happened, cursed energy reached 600 ea. Incan energy reached record highs and same with divine charges. So this could hurt the people who use lots of charges aka pvmers.

@ Guala92:
Some sort of requirement to gather cursed energy would reduce the amount of bots, sure, but it wouldn't stop them. Not sure how to stop them yet unfortunately :(

Thanks Billiebear! Glad you like my idea.

@ Devincia3:
Yes, it'll make cursed more expensive when we reduce or get rid of the bots.
It's still the right thing to do, as bots shouldn't even exist in this game.
There can always be some sort of correction to bring the prices back down if they do venture too high, for example, they could make divine charges require less energy to create etc.

My 2 cents on this is that people seem to want Cursed Energy to remain a thing, even though it's only really used by bots, because bots can do all the "hard work" of gathering the energy so that a PKer can then come along, kill them and get rich.

I have no issue whatsoever with people disrupting bot activities. If done properly, it can help reduce the damage that bots inflict on the game and it's economy. However, in this case the damage is still being dealt: the botted energy is still making it's way onto the market and devaluing Incandescent energy regardless of whether it's the bot, or a person who killed a bot, who does the selling.

Additionally, making money from bot activities is against the rules in most cases, however there seems to be a loophole when it's done through PKing bots in the Wilderness. They need to fix that loophole, so that profiting directly from bots is *always* against the rules.

However, the problem then becomes, if nobody is allowed to profit from bots, people would stop PKing bots, at which point it's the bots themselves selling more energy because their activity isn't interrupted.

So the long and short of it is, there's no way to "solve" the problem without removing cursed energy altogether.

Since we're getting an update on Monday which includes a means to permanently boost the rate at which energy is acquired while doing Divination, there will naturally be more energy entering the game from all rifts, including the Cursed rift. That's the point the problem simply cannot be overlooked any longer, so the best solution is for Cursed Energy to be removed entirely: all other energies will be easier to gather large quantities, so there's much less reason to keep Cursed in the game except to further devalue all other energies.

And removing Cursed gets rid of the "getting rich by killing bots" moral dilemma entirely.
