Some good out of the box thinking, but I'm struggling to see how pick pocketing in that scenario would solve anything.

Remember that even with this change, the CE source would still be situated in the Wilderness, so the preferable option for players which will always exist would be to simply kill the player, rather than engage in a slower risky pick pocket mini game that might be countered - even by bots once the bot software adapts to the change.

The existing problem would persist - actual skillers would still be put-off collecting CE because they'd still be easy PK targets, and the bots are going to persistently bot it regardless. Regardless of whether it's dumped into the economy by bots, or stolen off the bots and dumped into the economy by a player, the value of CE would suffer the same.

So the only solution I can see is a small tweak to your idea: move the CE out of the wilderness. This will make CE more desirable for the general player base to farm, devaluing it for the bots since others would be able to farm it, and ensuring there's always a sizable number of thieves at the CE gather point - even skillers could get in on the act safely and make bot effort null and void.

But the pick pocket feature provides your risk factor: a person with a higher pickpocket skill would be safer than someone with a low pickpocket skill (the bigger the difference in skills, the faster or slower the bar moves depending on who has the advantage).

Go in with a low pick pocket skill and you're going to get your CE stolen often. You could still attempt to gather CE, but you'd need to be constantly aware of what's going on around you and run if you see other players - similar to how you need to be cautious in the Wildy. The only difference is skillers could potentially improve their standing and be the ones with the advantage if they train their pick pocket skill (non-combat).

Thanks uncle pob.

I love the wilderness and hoped to improve cursed gathering while keeping it there.
It is better to kill the player for their cursed energy, but you won't always be able to attack the player (wilderness levels will apply). This is why I created cursed pickpocketing, so no one is safe from having their energy taken, but low levels are protected from being killed by high levels. High levels being able to kill all of the low levels simply causes low levels to give up on the content and thus, make the wild even more dead.

I hope that it can be made so that botting software can't recognize it.
"The bots are going to consistently bot it regardless" - whether it is in the wild or not.
It's better for a player to be rewarded for killing or stealing from a bot, then the bot being rewarded for its unfair activity. It's a form of bot busting that actually rewards the player.

Skillers would benefit from it being moved out of the wilderness, but at the cost of the wilderness and the most exciting element of cursed gathering, in my opinion.

Having cursed energy outside of the wilderness with the pickpocket mexhanic is good, but I really hoped to make it work as an attraction to the wilderness and an exciting option for pvp.

That's actually not a bad solution and theoretically atleast could work. Some people seem to be missing the point that the Wilderness level rules would be put back into place so you couldn't just kill a low level player to avoid the whole pickpocket idea.

However:
-Bots work on pixel data, so the "bar" would be detected, as would any visual signs that you were being pickpocketed, such as the animation etc. There really is no realistic way to stop the botting of cursed energy in a way that doesn't effect legitimate players and that a bot couldn't detect.

Brilliant idea. Support.

I should also mention another issue about high-lvl players increasing their kc for wildstalker helmet on bots.

Thanks for your response, Scorphio.

Hmm... that sucks. Might have to change my idea, or come up with a new one.
Have to think about what bots can't do, or struggle to. Something interactive... like the thief does something which the victim must interpret and react, in order to avoid the pickpocket (in such a way that a bot cannot).

Thanks Spidfair!
Yeah... that's bad. I really hope that we can get rid of bots... :@

Since Jagex implemented the Ring of Trees, the thought had occurred to me - why can't Jagex make a similar ring that's specifically made to turn the player into something a bot would bot, complete with "mock" right-click menu?

So what you'd do is you'd find you bot, and then transform into a tree, mining node, cursed wisp, fishing spot or whatever. The bot would "see" you, and then continuously send clicks to the fake-out right-click menu. As you move, the bot would follow, so you could pick-up an entire chain of bots.

Once you have the bot(s) following you, you could lead them to specific isolated spots in the world that contain fixed "fake" versions of the thing the bot was botting. They'd look and behave like normal nodes, except they wouldn't produce items, so the bot would (in theory) stay there botting away for hours.

Since his inventory would never get full, he'd never get the instruction to run and bank his items, so he'd literally stay there. Jagex can then implement an automatic server-ban on any players who've been "skilling" continuously in those zones for 1-2 hours straight.

Could just give them something akin to a random event that teleports them somewhere to do something random once triggered if they gather x energy from or give them a random event akin to exploding rock randomly a spring/wisp will change color for bit of time if someone gathers from it to long it explodes destroying there energy on them or after it explodes it gives debuff preventing transmutation or gather energy for 15minutes.
