Low levels shouldn't have to fight mains because it's not a fair enough fight.
Why else would the wilderness levels exist in the first place?
The wilderness levels were made for a good reason. They existed for cursed energy gathering too, until a decision was made to allow mains to kill every player - regarding the bot infestation. It was an OK solution to that problem, but it made PVP unfair for low levels.
No one is forced to take/risk an insignia. It is worn/risked if a player wishes to only be attackable by players within the normal wilderness level range, rather than everyone.
What's the problem with people waiting 10 mins for the curse to go away in order to log out?
It would be a lot easier to just leave the wilderness in order to remove the curse.
Since the curse is refreshed every time you gather from a wisp, when you see someone gathering, you'll know that they are vulnerable and can't log out or teleport for 10 minutes.

Enhancing Combat and PVP
Having just finished reading the entire thread, I've seen lots of good ideas posted. I particularly like the ideas highlighted in post 2 (quest item to restore normal wildy rules, and having the debuff applied based upon interacting with the spring, rather than anything else) as having potential to solve the problem. Hopefully Jagex will read this thread and get something from it

Do you think I should get off the tracks?
heh, what can I say, I like to read (good) discussions - and this isn't the longest thread that I've read before....
EDIT:
going for an edit so I don't spam up your thread with off topic posts, hopefully you spot my edit - anyways... back when I was a greenie (prior to a name change which occurred for other reasons, and I'm not going to say what greenie I was, you'll just have to take my word for it), I recall reading through a clan thread that was 150+ pages trying to figure out what was going on - that was a task... more recently however, I just finished reading through the
discussion
about some controversial JMod activity, which just entered it's 22nd page.
