For some items and quest unlocks, yes.

To progress IN GENERAL beyond intermediate?

No.

If you don't intend to boss you don't need to as you can just ignore all the boss content to upgrade your Necromancy gear in between level 70 - 95. And at level 95 you can simply buy the First Necromancer set.

We didn't have that crafters creating actually useful combat gear in other styles only means they other styles are too restricted to skillers, but with Necromancy skillers have far more significancies.

A few billion for gear? Do you know it is very easy to make a few billions gp in RS3, especially through combat, and I mean even just through regular slayering and not touching a boss, and in RS3 we definitely don't need BiS gear to kill BiS bosses.

For me, Necro is great. I couldn't do anything with EOC. My inputs made the damage worse, other than melee which has a lot of cool stuff to do.

Always struggling with the combat, I had little room to focus on what the boss is doing. With Necro I can build the stacks, my followers keep attacking while I dodge. The new update that removed adrenaline cost and let us summon the whole group is sweet. They are always active and I have more adrenaline for other abilities.

I'm sure I am terrible at the new combat, I just have the gear I made and not even T90 power yet. But I am happy where I am at, with lots of room to improve.

Even if they didn't improve the other styles, I am still better at using them now because I understand more about the NPC combat.
