The voices resonated from all sides, coming closer and closer. he couldn't breathe, couldn't think -
Franklin woke with a start, forehead covered in sweat. The dreams were getting worse - the voices weren't inside his head, the only time that had happened was the first time, the night that the

had been destroyed; but each night they were closer, swirling faster and faster...
Jody's voice brought him out of his reverie, "We've just exited hyperspace. There's a single habitable planet, the ships are headed for it."
Franklin stood up and ambled to the refresher, "Is it Neran?"
"Used to be, but it was lost a few centuries ago. Even then, it was a border world with nearly no population."
"Shouldn't be hard to keep up with them then."

"You've lost a ship?"
"A ship missing its weekly checkin does not necessarily mean it is missing, and I would not advise a major operation, especially with the fragile relations in the periph-"
"Greer, three of our four closest allies have experienced full-scale military invasions; you are going to ignore petty fringe politics and send out as large an operation as needed."
Well, at least the responsibility of orders wasn't on his shoulders; "Yes, sir."
