To be honest, the moment we start incorporating any realistic facts in this (or any other) nation building game things cease being enjoyable.

For example, YOU ALL UTTERLY BUTCHER COMPUTING TECHNOLOGY- but it's not worth properly educating you all on it, or to do the proper digging so I can use the right systems to do what I want.

"EDIT 2: Ok. FTL weapon firing tech IS a war crime. HOLY CRAP."

I don't see how it could be a war crime.

There's going to be nothing left to prosecute.

Yes, but its figurative (Your killing your own people if you decide to fire it directly at the ship without any means of bypassing the atmosphere). I mean, if you decided to fire a shell at FTL in atmosphere, you deserve to lose the planet you live on. If it were a satellite, then you should be fine because space has no drag forces (ALL THE FTL)

And on the post above, certain laws of physics have to stay true. Its nature for them to stay that way. Everything else can go out the window, but if you decide to use sub-light travel in atmosphere, you deserve to lose what your protecting, the only FTL that really can be used in atmosphere is if it uses some form of tech to bypass traveling through the atmosphere to avoid it all.

Fajner parked the boat silently beside an old pier, long abandoned, and climbed out of it. The night was illuminated only by the moons in the sky - unlike many other worlds, Nera had chosen not to permanently light up its surface with orbital mirrors. He walked over to a door, jammed shut with rust, but as he gestured towards it, it opened with a screeching noise.

The reincarnated god walked inside the walls of the great Nera City, shutting the door behind him and pluging him into darkness. But despite his isolation from most of his powers, he was still far from being an ordinary mortal. With an upward gesture of his open hand, the room blazed into flickering light as a small dome of blue fire appeared in his palm. Looking to his left and right, Fajner walked through the concrete corridor until he reached a small doorway. He extinguished his light and placed his palm on the door. The results disturbed him: the door had been opened.

Fajner stepped behind a pillar and considered his next course of action. Any thieves who happened upon his cache could not have broken through the inner locks, but they could still be inside. He decided to play it safe. With a thrusting motion of both hands, the door slammed open, and a gust of icy wind blew into the doorway, taking a man in robes off of his feet. Another man immediately ran to the door, but Fajner was there first. He placed his hand on the man's shoulder, and the man immediately collapsed.

A third man stood at the opposite end of the room, holding a wand in his hand. As he raised it, he began an incantation. " Somnium! " A bolt of light shot towards Fajner, who raised a hand towards it. The bolt exploded on impact, staggering both of the wizards, but Fajner got up first. He jabbed a half-open fist towards the other man, and his wand flew out of his hand and into Fajner's. " Stupefy. Obliviate. " These spells were performed twice more, and the god then moved to the other side of the room.

All this talk actually made me think of a way to make the weapons even more useful. Channel the plasma into a devastating blast of... Well... Plasma; if it is even 1/100 of a percent as powerful as suggested, it could be used to punch holes in capital ships in-system...

This is something I must ponder, and maybe make a couple projects to utilize properly.

Are you suggesting taking the plasma generated from firing a slug (well, from firing anything, but in this case a slug) at FTL in-atmosphere and then somehow aiming it toward the same target you fired the slug at?

Because that... well, it could work, in theory. It's certainly not impossible as far as I can see.

But, wow, the amount of power generation you would require to handle that would be rather, shall we say, impressive .

There may be other things here I'm missing that Sith won't, of course. But I don't actually think what you're suggesting is impossible; as a theoretical exercise, at any rate.

That is exactly what I am suggesting.

And the projects I made a passing reference to are what would easily give me enough power generation to do that hundreds of times over & make my shielding more efficient.

Edit:

Actually, if refined enough, it could have even greater range than simple in-system... But speed would be an issue. FTL plasma makes less sense than FTL slugs...

Your power generation would have to exceed the energy contained within/being given off by the expanding plasma-thing at any one time (well, at every one time), else you wouldn't be able to guide it sufficiently since you wouldn't have enough power to manipulate it.

However, I have absolutely no idea how much energy that is; I could probably make ballpark estimates based on the what-if xkcd pages and on how much energy is released in fusion reactions (multiplied by a ridiculous number given every single atom is undergoing fusion, not unlike the core of a star) if I really wanted to, but I don't as of yet. Suffice to say it'd be quite a lot.

I suppose it all really depends on what you're actually using to generate the required power (as in fusion/anti-matter/that sort of stuff), in what exact manner you intend to use it, and what tricks you're using to 'spec it out', so to speak =P
