The soldiers move up to the walls of R'ni and begin trekking about a kilometre west until they reach a large delivery entrance.

"Alright, in eighteen seconds, a delivery truck should exit through here to make the delivery we ordered. That means that the door should open... now."

The wall begins rumbling, and the main doors swing inwards as large beams are lifted from the ground, reminiscent of a crystalline porticullis. The soldiers sneak inside, remaining in the shadows, where their armour makes them virtually invisible. They look around, and see that the room is several stories tall, with garages along the west side, loading and unloading docks on the right, and a security balcony ahead, on top of a reinforced door.

"There's a camera on the balcony, but our suits are working as intended. We should even be able to walk right up to the door, but I don't want to take the risk and strain the suits. The door isn't meant for cargo, meaning that there must be more doors in the garages and by the loading docks."

The soldiers move towards a loading dock and see workers heading towards an open doorway. One of the soldiers throw a little ball of putty onto the doorframe before it closes.

"Let's give them a minute to get out of the way."

Once they're sure that the workers are gone, one of the soldiers winks at an indicator on his HUD. The ball of putty, now nearly flat between the door and frame, slowly begins expanding, creating a gap of about five millimetres. The soldiers press another ball of a different type of putty, and repeat the process, this time widening the gap to about five centimetres. At this point, they pry the door open with a crowbar and move into the corridor, replacing the first type of putty into the doorframe behind them.

Plus, why mine away uninhabited planets for centuries & do nothing immense with the materials?

You could put it towards, I don't know, infrastructure for your people maybe?! Focusing on quantity and gaining more and more land spreads yourself too thin, and claims an end similar to that of the classical Roman empire.

In terms of ships, accomplishing the same goals with less size and materials is more efficient: Duh!

Infrastructure can't use up that much material... Infrastructure is covered easily, hundreds of times over at the very least, despite over-engineering it by a factor of 3 or 4.

Plus having such a large size lets me put doomsday-class weapons into a ship, providing a final resort if all else fails, or total war is declared. Weapons that would otherwise be planetarily-restricted & thus defensive-only, that could destroy my planet as well as the target...

Also, I only have 1 planet, its two moons, & some Earth land. I am planning for the somewhat-near future for maybe one or two more systems. If that is spread too thin for 35+ billion soldiers then this game has lost any remaining vestiges of sanity.

Lastly, massive size provides 'shock and awe' value. It's harder to achieve that with ships limited to, for example, the size of a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier.

Well, I don't know about you, but, to me, there's more shock and awe in a smaller ship doing the exact same thing a larger ship can do. A ship the size of a country, or a ship the size of the Normandy, both capable of destroying a planet - I know which one I'm going to be more intimidated by.

Why? Because if that's what the smaller ships can do... imagine what the larger ones can do! Oh, and, of course, logically, a small-ish ship... I'd be asking myself, how many more does my opponent have?

I mean, I love the idea behind More Dakka, it's awesome, and 'biggest rock is best rock!' to quote SMBC Theatre, but... to me, a bigger ship just gives me something easier to aim at (insert obligatory 'but it really wouldn't matter if it was a single quark spiraling into a black hole because our tech is just that awesome, amirite?).

The larger ships are the only ones that I bother to go into any detail with... As it stands, there are many millions of other vessels I could use, but I'd rather jump straight to the biggest, meanest thing I have...

Also, I am uncertain as to how much impact energy it takes to destroy a planet... I don't know if one of my OMEGA-class vessels could destroy a planet or not. I don't know if one of my MONITOR-class vessels could destroy a planet or not. I know the R.S.V. 'Phoenix' can destroy a planet with a single shot. Hell, it can do a lot more with a single shot.

Plus, I don't have the capacity to shrink down the main weapon on the Phoenix too much while keeping it self-contained. (OOG: A cannon firing a literal singularity at the target... Not easy for me to put on any smaller ship, not without having developed the tech more. This is the first foray into anything even remotely like it for Reach. End OOG.) And to add to that, a ship that size carries enough soldiers to easily gain a foothold on a planet & prepare for further reinforcements to arrive.

(Plus, the shells from the Phoenix are bigger than the Normandy... I might be able to shrink them down if I made them from neutron stars though.)

Edit:

Don't forget about ramming speed. As well as being able to have a lot of armor.

Shielding replaces and improves upon armor in every way.

Why would one need to ram anything when they can debilitate them from afar?

Why do you need to destroy planets?

Who are you trying to intimidate? That ship the size of a wasp that's already out-maneuvered you and ensured your defeat?

The State of Arrentine has announced huge progress in Project Rehabilitation and Project Orion. Stage One of both projects has been completed and there secondary projects (Rehabilitation 2 and Orion 2) have started.

A summary on what has occurred with Project Rehabilitation:

After a 10 year recovery program, the orbital path of Dag'Ron Tek has been cleared of all debris. All the debris is being reused to help with the reconstruction of the shipyards that once orbited Dag'Ron Tek. The project has also started the radiation clean up of the planet and began cleaning the radiation around the last habitable zone. The rehabilitation project will also prepare the planet for Terraforming to change the desert environment to a more habitable planet to sustain a larger populace. The project also completed the new Dag'Ron Tek shipyards.

With Project Rehabilitation Completion, Project Rehabilitation II has started and will focus on the radiation clean up of the planet. This will take 10 years. (Jan 26th).

Project Orion Summary:
Project Orion, part one has announced that 4 colonies have been established in the Orion Nebula, down from the hopeful 10 to be established. The colonies were founded on habitable worlds, with temperatures ranging from slightly colder than Arrentine Major, to hotter than Earth (Triassic Earth). The colonies have been named Orionis Zal, Armas-Zil, Dag'Ron Toh, and Palavan (ME3 reference!).

The current populations are roughly 5,000 on the colonies and have Defense technologies placed. Relay Networks are being established to allow travel to the homeworld and to the rest of the galaxy.

The Military Upgrades have been seen massive improvements with the Dag'Ron Tek shipyards also being completed, with more ships ready to be produced soon.
