I think gravebumping is a bit of a non-issue in FG. It should only be a problem if the bumped game is *still* lacking in activity some time after the bump or if there are similar existing active games. If the game is original and players are taking part in the game after a gravebump, then the thread should be left to continue because players are enjoying the newly revived game. Locking it serves no purpose in that situation.

2 other ways around the grave bump prob:
1) Forcibly remove the old threads
2) create a RSOF Games Forum V2, move the active threads of the first few pages, then the OP of threads on pages after that need to request those get moved. 2 weeks later, delete V1.

I'm sorry, but dear lord, two weeks? What are you trying to do, obliterate 95% of F-games? Not everyone has the luxury of being able to be that active.

Also, I know this is more of a controversial topic, but what about the more historical threads that don't see the same sort of activity as they once did. Do you have no sense of nostalgia? :P

I reserve Nostalgia for in game quest content.

If V1, V2, Vx of a game thread didn't work the last time around, and if it is evident the OP isn't around much, then the game gets salvaged under a modified format and hopefully Vx+1 gets more play.

TBH, given the slight dropoff on forum usage over the years, it doesn't hurt to do some house cleaning periodically.
You'll say an outdated thread doesn't harm anyone. But given some variance on the tolerance levels of some Forum Mods on what is or isn't outdated, and asking Fmods to look at maybe the last 3-4 post such that if the posts were March 2016, Jan 2016, Oct 2015, Sept 2015, then almost 4-5 months before that, does that make it a dead thread? at what points do you reach a definitive vs grey area?

If the thread is active, the it's active.
If it has few people playing it, then let it go.
If the OP loves the game hard enough and they are willing to petition it to be moved to a Games Forum V2, then more power to them.

I'm aware that redoing the forum is one of the "nuclear" options.
Yes, I might be the first one in support of it.
I might be the ONLY one in support of it.
But I bring it up because it is one of several viable options, and it does also solve the question of gravebumping, AND there is some precedence if you extend when they created the Lore Forum to branch off some of the discussions there from the Future Updates and other Forums, also when they merged several of the Forums.

But to the topic at hand, I would go for 1 month or less time period between when the thread hits 2k and the OP can repost it or an alt.
With an addendum that if the game is popular enough (you do have a few floating that are in the double digits of version and tend to cap in 2 months) that if a certain number of "supports" for the next version in the Games Forum Discussion Thread, then by a community vote, a new version can be made sooner.

Unless we just make a minor suggestion to all game creators that they can add a "let the games forum community at large create the next version if it caps" within their thread.
I mean, is it really that big of a deal who "owns" a thread?
Especially since the game may or may not really be copyrighted by the person.

Fair enough :P I will agree that grey areas make it difficult to set rules regarding what's active and what is not.

What do you think of threads that aren't exactly games and don't require/attract many posts, yet have always resided in F-games. For example, signature galleries usually won't attract many posts, and will therefore be considered inactive. However, people can still look at all the content in the thread, so one could argue that the thread still has a place/purpose in the section and should remain unlocked. Obviously, these threads are quite difficult to remake. Sure they can be saved offline, but then nobody else gets to see them.

I think thread owners should really prepare for what happens when a thread maxes. It's their responsibility to make others aware of their desires (whether or not they want to maintain ownership). If they don't specify that they want to hold on to their thread, then I think two weeks is a good amount of time. Otherwise, maybe a month.

I won't comment on the Art/Signature threads.
I personally don't consider them a game, but they are so unique that they don't really have a home. You could just as easily slot them under General, Miscellaneous, Stories/RP, or one of the Events forums and be just as supportive of their inclusion their as against.
So wherever you want to put them *shrugs*

On thread bumping, here's one I'd have said as a candidate to lock or not move over if you did a new forum.

Then again, others would argue to try to resurrect it, or keep it for nostalgia's sake.

Sorry if I'm putting out too many comments on this.
