Well, I've not been feeling great for a few months. Not in a bad way, just regular, painful heartburn, acidic taste in the mouth, and really painful indigestion in my guts. Over the past few weeks, I had started to feel quite sick. I put it down to this heatwave we've been having here in Blighty, but alas, it persisted. So I was pressganged into getting medical advice.

The Doc' put it down to Gastroesophageal reflux disease, which basically means the valve at the bottom of my oesophagus has become weakened and probably slightly damaged. As such, the Acid in my stomach is flowing up into my oesophagus, causing the pains I've been having.

So, I've been put on a course of proton-pump inhibitors, to help reduce the amount of acid produced, and just help everything settle down a bit. I've also been advised to make some basic lifestyle changes, namely cutting out some foods, and alcohol (not that I drank much anyway). I don't have to stop eating them, just lower my intake and see what foods 'trigger' a negative reaction, if that makes sense.

Foods to avoid include:
French fries and onion rings,
Full-fat dairy products,
Fatty or fried cuts of beef, pork, or lamb.
Bacon fat, ham fat, and lard.
Desserts or snacks such as ice cream and potato chips.
Cream sauces, gravies, and creamy salad dressings.
Oily and greasy foods.
Fruits such as: oranges, grapefruit, lemons, limes, and pineapple, as well as tomatoes/tomato sauce or foods that use it, such as pizza and chili,
Salsa,
Garlic & Onion,
Chocolate,
Mint.

But I like all of those! :(

And thanks for the concern, I'm starting to feel better thanks. Just a little annoyed I have to cut down on those foods, but I suppose in some instances it's for the best. :P

You'll notice it's never the foods you hate the doctors ask you to give up. It's always the stuff you love to eat:

Doctor: Mr. Dak, I suggest you immediately cut out all kale from your diet.
Aslon: That'll be really easy, since I don't eat kale.
Doctor: Keep up the great work, Mr. Dak.
Aslon: No problemo.

If only it could be that simple.

Feel better Trewavas!
