Divine Lord Magery seemed to consider this. Which was a little disturbing, since he rarely considered any of his actions. After a moment, he replied,

“Your concerns about the Forum Fighters are valid, but I still consider the Shadowforger and Night Lily to be a nonissue. Two point five times regular rate, the Shadowforger intel, and I’ll even throw in what little intel we have on the Night Lily if she worries you so much.”

It was at that point Yuriel recognised the familiar chance for a bonus.

“Two point seven times regular rate and the intel. Lowest I’ll go.”

At that there was a knowing smile. The kind Agent Light knew all too well.

“Two point five times regular rate, the intel, three kittens and I’ll tell Commander Jane to leave you alone for a week.”

It was almost too sweet to pass up.

“Take the kittens out of the deal, and you have my services.”

To say that Divine Lord Magery rolled his eyes would be a colossal, titanic understatement. The orbs from whence shone his very divinity rotated in a glorious arc, forming a more perfect circle than any mortal being could describe. The sarcastic intent was not so much noticed as felt; like a buffeting wind that could at any moment force you to the ground with its mighty sass-forces. There were no words to appropriately describe it.

“Agreed. Here’s the intel and the contract. Now be off with you.”

Taking the items from where they hovered majestically in front of the God of Kittens, the head of the Shadow Guild bowed and began to depart. There was an instant of hesitation, and he looked back over his shoulder at the imperial ruler.

*What’s the charge under which you’re putting a contract out on him, if I may be so bold?”

The moral outrage in Magery’s voice really did*’t fit his next words.

“He got Jane’s title wrong, dammit.”

Walking down the hall, Yuriel took the time to examine the documents he had been handed. The contract was straightforward, and the Shadowforger intel looked suspiciously like her Wiki page. He put both into one of his Hammerspace pockets, and pored over the alarmingly short report on the Night Lily.

PERSONAL NOTES:
We did*’t interact all that much—once she realised who she was up against, she visibly surrendered her claim and left—but I have managed to discover a few things about the Night Lily we did*’t already know.
First of all, her name is Hannah. Don*t ask. I don’t kiss and tell.
Second, she walks around surrounded by a forcefield; it’s magical in nature, and covers her skin so closely and so well that, if you did*’t know it was there, you’d swear you were touching her instead. I’m not entirely sure how strong it is – I never got the chance to try breaking it, though, based on her output levels, I don’t she has the power to sustain it against much more than a class-B physical strike.
Third, no matter what your sensors tell you, she’s not an elementalist. She has fire, earth, water, and air running through her aura, stemming from her heart, that’s certainly true, but I know a Bender when I see one, and she’s not. I can** quite tell you what she is—her usual assassination method is decapitation, but nobody’s sure exactly how she does it—but I believe it has something to do with the way she smells slightly of metal.
Fourth, despite her missing arm, she’s incredibly dextrous; it doesn’t affect her balance at all, and even if I never saw it in action, I’m fairly sure she’s a lot better with her rapier than she looks. I wouldn’t classify as a S-ranked swordswoman—I believe the sword is meant as a distraction from her real skills*but she’d have to be high B to low A-rank.

Fifth, and finally, she’s a very, very talented seductress.
P.S she’s not sixteen, even though everything you try to scan her with says so – I know a time-locked world-line when I see one. I don’t know how many years she’s seen (but I suspect it’s less than a hundred), but she’s certainly older than she looks.

It was fascinating in its lack of detail. He would have to follow up with the assassin who filed the report (and there was only one such assassin it could be) to see if he couldn’t get more out of the lead Sparkadian assassin himself.

Also, he shipped it. If only because he was sick of Jane beating him to the OTPs.

After a few more minutes of purposeful strides, the Prime Wetboy arrived in the throne room of GodKing Marcus and gave his report. With that done, Sarah transitioned him back to the Tower.

----

Wind, elevation, factor in unpredictable movement. Basic elements of sniping. Elements the most infamous assassin in his own universe factored in without any attempt to do so, an ease of years granting him complete control over the area. Yuriel could have used his revolvers for this—they were more accurate than the average sniper rifle, and made no sound upon firing—but decided that tradition and the Rule of Cool demanded he use a proper rifle.

The prisoner was lined up in his scope. Time seemed to slow as he squeezed the trigger, and then literally did so as the bullet was released, dramatically impeding most beings except the shooter, and most objects bar the sniper round. With any luck, Yuriel’s deader would be lifeless before anyone even realised he was there.

And if luck wasn’t biting, the homing and phasing properties of the round in addition to the standard-issue Micro Oblivions should ensure nothing prevented the idea of the kill becoming a reality. Some might call it unsporting; Agent Light called it making money.

Sarah, prep a Hammerspace shift. Same one as before, ready to engage in previous style of warfare if this shot fails.

----

The Night Lily intel was written by Magery, and I post it with his permission. Similarly, I have permission to use his character for the purpose of furthering Yuriel’s mission.

Interlude: I Sense A Thousand Badasses Crying Out In Terror, Before Being Abruptly Silenced

The first sign of his presence is the arm resting on Yuriel's shoulder; an arm that doesn't even budge when Yuriel makes to flip the body behind him over said shoulder using it. There are very few people who have the raw strength to counteract Yuriel's favoured forms of martial arts--some of which are specifically designed to counter those with incredible strength--and out of those, there's only one he's ever met who bothers to sneak up on him.

"What are you doing here, K**the?" he asks. "I am a little busy, as you can see."

"Can't a man visit his cute little kohai every once in a while?" His voice is not particularly deep; rather, it flows like the currents of some great river, its strength hidden deep beneath the surface.

"More like spying on your cute little girlfriend ," Yuriel shoots back. "Don't think I couldn't read through those lines, K**the - you weren't even trying. "

"Oh, you think she's cute? I'm flattered!" K**the leaned down, until he was whispering in Yuriel's ear. "Don't let Jane catch you saying that - she's always been a jealous sort of girl."

"Oh, yes, my heart pines for the dashing Commander."

Legend has it that it was that sentence that started the first Sarcasm Civil War, when a rogue faction declared war on their fellow Sarcasites in response for voting Divine Lord Magery's previous eye-roll as the more sarcastic of the two.

"Well, now that I've got that confession on tape," K**the would later find out that the sheer level of Yuriel's sass had rendered the recording device inoperable, "I'd best get to what I was doing."

"And what were you doing?"

A note flutters down from where K**the used to be standing.

It reads:

Spoilers, sweetie!

P.S I couldn't tell you anyway, you don't have the requisite clearance yet.

"And people wonder why I don't like the guy," Yuriel mutters to himself.

Sorry for being away for a few days. Employment can drain one's mind under the right (wrong) circumstances.

Wayne, I'd be good to duel now, you want to duel M1, Cannon, or Everyone?

(M1 is the classic, Cannon's the change-up, and Everyone is for-the-lulz)

Or perhaps some other character?

The time-bending bullets approach their target, hurtling through the air at inhumanly detectable speed.

They near the released prisoner, ready to end his existence there and then.

At least, that*s what they would have done, had their own existence not ended there and then, their path cut off abruptly by some unseen force. Almost simultaneously, two thuds along with two rather sharp imprints on the ground are followed by a sudden blast of air outwards along the ground, kicking up small dust clouds.

If Yuriel had finished his thoughts over his recent encounter, he might have had time to puzzle over this before something at a speed greater than that of sound crashed onto the ground, albeit in a surprisingly light and elegant fashion.

As the debris clear from the air, they move away almost deliberately as if a veil; there standing in the midst of the field is a young woman. Of the Elven persuasion, to be specific.

The tall figure rises gracefully from her calculated landing position, revealing a thin, although not skinny, figure, standing a few inches or so over 6 ft. and clad in fairly plain medieval looking attire consisting of a simple beige sleeveless dress, dark teal shorts underneath, and the usual basic looking boots and belt holding various weapons and such. Brushing her long, silvery brown hair back with a dramatic arc of her right arm, the warrior shoots Yuriel a look that can best be described with the words, ‘yeah that’s right, I just did that’ .

Something else noticeable about the elf archer is the bow she carries. It is grey, but shiny as if made of some sort of metallic wood. And there is something geometrical about its shape and the scores visible along it. On her back is a quiver with a surprisingly low amount of arrows, only three. Either she’s stupid, arrogant, or running low on ammo. At least it seems so.

Another noticeable trait is the way that her hair and clothes are constantly flapping in the winds, even if there is no wind, almost as if she’s standing in the midst of a perpetual breeze.

The only person who recognizes the stranger, although he is, if anything, more shocked than anyone else at this arrival, is the pyroconjurer.

“Ellessa?!*

*Oh. Hai.”

“How are you*Oh what’s the point of asking? Why are you here?!”

“Just thought I’d… drop in.

The pyromancer sighs, “Of all the opening lines you could have used, you picked one of the most over-used**

*I don’t see what’s so over-used about ‘Oh. Hai.’ “

Whatever you'd find more enjoyable, M1.

Faylne is even less of a defined quantity than Aylss was, so we can both adjust to one another's scale as it is developed, so you can do as you wish. I know your comments before sounded like you would like to go the route of Cannon or a new character, as it's less off the "same old same old".

((BTW, Ellessa isn't like the elves Vrangr has as characters, that would be a rip-off. She's not immortal, for a start. I've also added her to the wiki so there's no controversy about me making up her powers as I go along.))

((EDIT- In my last post I described the invisible force which stopped the bullets having continued afterwards. Ignore that, They were erased from existence when the bullet hit them. They basically acted as a substitute for the prisoner, and even if they didn't take the bullets down with them, the blast of air from them should have been powerful enough to stop most magically or technologically enhanced bullets, or at least divert their path enough for the target to escape or find some way of countering.))
